What would you choose?

Looking at treating myself to a new bike and have windled it down to this final three. I am looking at something for commuting, light touring and pillion work, but also something that is a bit of fun (I started looking at an NC750x and CB500 but were too dull and slow)

I have tried a Tiger XCx which was awesome, and am trying the Yamaha and Honda on Wednesday. I have ridden a new VFR800F which has a lot of shared parts and the engine was fantastic, really good fun so I have high hopes for the Crossrunner. But what would you choose and why?

I am sure i would be thrilled with any of them but its always good to get other peoples opinions Smile

I'd look at the more road biased versions I imagine the standard Tiger would be better, for 99% for what you do than the XC.

Unless you're commuting you don't want this ^^ at all. You wont like it, it is not the bike for you *waves hand*

Tracer and XRx and would make my shortlist. Tracer is more appealing to me, but why not get a test ride and see what you prefer.

Yes the NC750 was pretty dull, especially with the DCT gearbox!

Test rides are booked for Wednesday but just wanted some other opinions beforehand, all seem to get good reviews on websites / magazines Smile

I thought a major factor in all these bikes was the looks - so choose the one you think will make you look the most ewan and thingie? Smile

Test rode all three today. Yamaha was an absolute hooligan, Triumph was our favourite and the Honda was great but tough availability until August and was the most grown up.

Triumph came back with a ridiculous finance quote with accessories at 14.9% which would make it almost £5k more than the Yamaha.

I will try a different dealer tomorrow but tbh i think the Yamaha will be heading the list just as I think it will be huge fun for the 99% of the time i will be riding solo and it seems fantastic value for money over the other two.

The only complaints we had for it is the lack of decent oe luggage, a lot of play in the throttle and a couple of missed gears, which tbh I think are just problems with the demonstrator we rode as the showroom bikes felt a lot better.

All three were great though and I would be thrilled with any of them. It is obviously not the worst decision anyone has ever had to make Laughing

SW motech do a lovely luggage set

Throttle can be sorted easily.

Can't say anything about any gearbox issues.

Told you so Laughing

I've had my tracer for a while now. Cracking bike. In A mode it certainly get's the pulse racing even with the wife on the back. Only thing I don't like is the tyres it comes with, so I certainly looking forward to replacing them, but that's my only complaint with the bike Cool Mine has hardly any throttle play at all. Did the demo have the heated grips or not? Mine has the heated grips Thumbs Up

That Triumph quote is stupid in todays market.

Get 0% from a dealer or a personal loan from the bank at about 4%. I wouldn't pay any more than that.

That number plate hanger looks like it will snap off at the first whiff of a pot hole Laughing

It's nice enough in the 'bog standard modern Japanese motorcycle' design category.

Enjoy.

Test ride the Triumph Tiger Sport?

More oomph. VERY comfortable for touring and if you haggle they'll throw in hard panniers?

123BHP vs 115BHP? (quoted)

77ft -lb vs 66ft - lb (quoted)

So yes while on paper the triumph marginally outperforms the yamaha i dont know if you would notice those gains riding them back to back.

Certainly not enough to warrant an extra £1500+ for a new one.

Part of the appeal to the tracer is the package you get for the price.

Triumph seem to hold their value very well. If you're only going to keep it for 2 or 3 years, then the increased residual values may mean that to cost of ownership isn't so high, especially with money being available so cheaply at the moment
