iv'e got my mod 2 test next Thursday.
i'm new to the area and have a 3 hour lesson on Monday... then an hour before the test on Thursday.
i failed mod 2 last year by staying in the right lane after overtaking (Banbury test center)
my question is should i fork out an extra £80 and do the full day starting at 9 (test at 1:30) on Thursday test day or not?... i'm a student who is tight on money so i cant decide if i should take extra lessons to help. i mean it would cheaper than to take a re-sit/re-test if i fail. but if i do fail even with extra lessons i feel it would have been a waste of money.
i don't see why i would fail...unless i do something stupid ... ahhhhh help!
my test is in st helens near Wigan, never been around the area as i spend most my time being a student in Leicester. so anybody who has done their mod 2 test there with any pointers would be helpful |

You failed on something that's in the highway code. How will local knowledge help with that? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Just do the test without the extra training.
If you fail it will usually be something stupid that training wouldn't have helped you avoid.
You probably know what's expected by now and if you keep your cool you'll do it.
You have to take extra care when doing the test somewhere you don't know well.I did my test in an unfamiliar city and it probably helped me take greater care to avoid cocking up.
I did my test with just a 2 hour lesson and you're having a 3 hour lesson so be a piece of p*ss |

I know money is tight... but really, for £80 - I would do it. Local knowledge can be very helpful - it isn't about you learning the routes etc.. but it is getting a feel for how local people deal with specific hazzards, traffic systems etc. If nothing else, it will serve as a good warm up and confidence builder. Guarantee, that if you turn up at the DTC, with very little local knowledge - u will be shitting bricks. I wouldn't wing it - St Helens has some tricky little bits. Worth mentioning, that where I work when people come for a test from out of town they are much more nervous because they are so far out of their comfort zone. ____________________ It's just a job. If you can only ride to test standard on roads that you're familiar with then maybe you're not ready to have a full license. |

If you can ride on local roads, you can ride on any road!
Remember, they're not testing you on your sense of direction - If the examiner says go right and you're in the wrong lane.... just go with it. You might get a minor or 2 but hey, a pass is a pass right?
Best of luck - Remember to keep your cool and ride safely. ____________________ CBT Passed - 22 / 10 / 11 >> Theory Passed - 16 / 02 / 2012 >> Mod 1 Passed - 07 / 03 / 2012 >> Mod 2 Passed - 18 / 05 / 2012. |

As others say a road is a road, whether you take a left turn on a road you know or don't it's the same.
I am in the same boat as you, have my mod 2 at St Helens also next week, and have a 3 hour lesson tomorrow, and haven't a clue on any of the roads around there as I live on the Wirral.
If you feel the extra time will help you ride correctly then go for it, but I wouldn't use it to learn the roads.
If the examiner says follow the signs to a place, then just make sure you keep your eyes open to see the signs in good time. If you find yourself in the wrong lane at the last minute then don't sweat it, carry on in the wrong direction but do it safely as it's not a fail.
My sense of direction is horrendous, and have to come to the conclusion that I won't know or learn the routes even if I had a year to practice them, and I have found a positive out of it, it's one less thing to worry about if you just accept that fact, and can focus the mind on just riding correctly, whilst your satnav follows you behind. |

i've 4hrs of lessons before my practical test next thursday.
had my first hr after work today and MY HEAD IS SPINNING
the observation required is unreal. the instructor basically said ,' no , wrong, didn't do your...' etc for an hr
i've a two hr lesson day before and 1hr before, on the day. hope to get up to speed by then.
thing is, the more he told you off for not doing something , the pressure built, and i was in a daze before long, looking too much!
argh, ok . well good luck to anyone dong it soon. have to say, i think this will be harder than the manoeuvres test. |
