I'm looking to replace my lost camera. I'm not after a DSLR at this stage, just want a good compact digital to go in my bike jacket pocket for snaps whilst out and about.
The camera I'm replacing was a Fuji AX245W Finepix, only cost me about £60 from Tescos some years ago, but did sterling service for what I wanted - I'm not ready to get deeply involved in taking my photography forward just yet, I just want to get something fairly quickly that is at least as good as the Fuji was.
A bit more about the Fuji. 12MP, 2.7" LCD screen, 28mm wide angle, 4x optical zoom.
Two things I didn't like about it. Distortion of large objects at the edges of the picture, and I definitely want a bit more optical zoom than 4x, was very limited. I am fully aware that I couldn't really have expected much more at that kind of price, but was happy with it just for snaps when out and about. I am also aware that my results may have had potential to improve upon, even with that cheap little thing, had I taken a bit more time to experiment with it.
TBH, I never used much in the way of manual settings, just choosing from the auto-presets that the Fuji had. There will come a point (I think) when I'll want to get more serious and start looking at DSLRs, and learning how to use them for best results, experimentation etc, but that isn't really what this particular search is about. I just want something easy to use, easy to upload the results, edit with basic software &c.
A quick look on t'net gives a confusing array of choices for someone who really doesn't know a great deal about cameras, so thought I'd ask here, as I know some of you are pretty knowledgeable in this field, so would be grateful for any recommendations. Budget of about £150 tops.
Also, any recommendations of where to buy would be appreciated.
