So...

I passed my test this January, haven't been on a bike since then and haven't been able to afford one until now.

My mate's selling a very nice VFR750 to me at mate's rates, the thing is he's down in Southeast London and i'm up in Leyland, Lancs (about 237 miles away).

Whats the best way of getting it back up to myself in Lancashire?

I'm tempted to be a mentalist and ride it back. I did own a 125 whilst I lived down London for a month and am used to riding through the centre and all over the show, but my lack of experience on big bikes is a tad bit worrying.

And its a bit of a faff getting my gear down there on the train.

Any good delivery companies people have used in the past that they could recommend? i've sent off for a few quotes already from random Google searches, but there seems to be loads and don't know which to trust.

Its not mental to ride it home at all. Your issue is that you don't have experience riding right? Well there's only one way to get that experience.

I would take some headphones, pull up google maps and type in your address. Set it to 'avoid motorways' and let the voice instructions do the navigating. Stop every 50 miles or so at a pub, have a nice cold drink, maybe a bite to eat.

Enjoy it. First ride on your own big bike? Nothing like it, I'm well jelly.

Ride it or hire a van and bring it back yourself.

If you hire a company to bring it back, make sure they are correctly insured incase the worst happens.

That depends entirely on the condition of it. Has your mate ridden it up until recently?

If it's not been sitting for a long time and is in working order then you'd be mad not to ride it back Thumbs Up

Pick a nice day, rain makes first journeys miserable, choose which route you're going to take for the majority of the way or until you get to familiar and enjoy it.

Days been picked. Can only do it on a weekend due to work commitments so fingers crossed the weather is alright in three weeks time. He's been riding it daily for the last couple of weeks, its in reasonable nic with good sprocket and chain and all oily bits as they should be. Getting insurance with breakdown cover just in case.

I'm leaning more towards riding it back now, can't bloody wait!
