I am soon to book mod 1 DAS training once I've decided on a training school. Two people who work/own a bike MOT garage recommended Wolverhampton and not Garretts Green as they said the examiners at Garretts Green have failed candidates on things such as on mod 1 gently nudging a cone at end of test, on mod 2 riding at 48mph in a 50mph limit, another failure was forgetting to do a life saver when pulling into test centre at end of test. Apart from this, the said candidates would have had clean sheets with no minors. I said surely they should have been minor faults, not dangerous or serious faults ? I was told that's what they are like but much better at Wolverhampton. I thought as long as examiner can see you are safe then would pass

My question is, has anyone had any bad (or good) experiences like this (over zealous failures by jobsworth examiners) at Garretts Green or even Wolverhampton ?

Thanks for reading.

Plural, more than one?

I've attempted the Module 1 on my own 125 (a1) twice at garrets green and have only ever seen one person taking the tests, could of been coincidence that I had the same guy on both occasions but every other person that came out of the main office was either a LGV examiner or car examiner.

First attempt at Module 1 saw me attempt the emergency stop as he walked over and said "I'm going to have to stop the test in the interest of safety", my idea was due to strong winds but turned out I had a "serious fault" due to "not stopping quickly enough".

Second attempt saw me fail based on speed on the avoidance, I asked the guy for an opinion or tips on my technique and if every other part was done ok, response was similar to (not exact words, but might of well as said) "if you want help go to a training school".

I've booked some (Module 1 - A2) DAS training with RMT chances are since they use the actual test pad for training they're bound to know the examiner and what he looks for to pass someone.

In terms of training schools in Birmingham I'd recommended RMT, if you want actual feedback on Module 1 DAS training I can respond again on the weekend when I've actually done some with them but my CBT was enough to tell me it was the right choice to go back with them.

Had bad experiences with Riders (located on the Bristol road) so wouldn't recommended them (and that was before even agreeing to put down any money) Thumbs Down

I thought if you aren't going fast enough on the emergency stop or swerve you get a second chance, and if you are going at least 48kph you get a minor as long as everything else was all good

Many thanks. Firstly, plural as in examiners in general from what people have heard or single as in your or somebody's examiner Smile
RMT and Goldies have recommendations. They are the only ones I know of who use the actual DSA test pad for training. So that would rule out Riders. I've had quotes from both for mod 1 :
RMT £460 for 2 days training then test on 3rd day included in total price.
Goldies £320 for 2 days training with I think test on 2nd day preceded by half day assessment included in total price.
Hopefully Garretts Green should better for you next time with mod 1 pass.Would appreciate your feedback. Good luck on your mod 1 Thumbs Up

Serious fault is serious and I quote "if a pedestrian where to step out form the kerb you wouldn't have stopped in time".

I wouldn't want my first attempt to cast a shadow of doubt since I went back on the same bike took the same test and passed the part I'd previously failed on under the same examiner.

Point is DSA examiner says "no" then "no" it is, end of, thus my experience of DSA examiner at Garrets green is "no" seems to be his favorite word along side a brick wall personality.

Anyhow that was attempting to do it myself without any training at all, I've chosen a good school with a good reputation and that I personally feel at home with so we'll see what happens next time around.

As I read earlier "pass the stupid pointless test" and all is good Thumbs Up
