I’m probably going to get some stick for this but I really want to replace my aftermarket exhaust for a standard one.

Bought my Bandit 1200 k3 a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely love everything else about the bike. When I bought it I told the guy I wasn’t so keen on the loud exhaust so would probably fit a standard one on. He told me I’d get used to it and end up loving it.

I must admit, when I open her up for a bit of fun it sounds delicious. Trouble is, when I’m sat at say 60mph on A roads I find the drone just gives me a bad head.

I’m 45 and bought the bike for commuting and a bit of fun at weekends. I could live with the little drop in HP if that would be the case.

My question is, though, can I just take the aftermarket one off and stick a standard on in its place or with the engine need setting up for a standard can? There’s no name on the aftermarket can but it has the ‘road use’ approval numbers and the baffles are in. I suspect it’s well within legal limits. I’m just and old fart who wants a peaceful ride.

Cheers all.

G

No mods needed if you stick the standard can on, it will be fine.

Depending on the make and design, you may well be able to fit a silencer baffle to your existing exhaust.

Fuel make a universal decibel killer for £20.

The DB killer sounds like a good way to go but I don't know the make of the can. I'll have another look around it for any clues.

Seems quite unlikely, but if you do replace it and want to sell the old one, and by some miracle it will fit a 2014 GSX 1250, I'd be interested.

On that subject, anyone know how to check if a can will fit a given bike?

Do you wear earplugs? If not, you should Thumbs Up Previously had a stupidly loud exhaust, sold it and got a not as loud one. You should be able to pick up a stock exhaust for pretty cheap.

I ended up cutting my exhaust down just so I could hear it over the wind noise at *cough* legal motorway speeds

Still being a childish 41 year old I like nothing better than holding the clutch in and getting it to spit flames through tunnels Twisted Evil

Yeh... 45 hit me like a ton of heavy things. I make the same noises getting out of bed as I did 15 years ago having sex.

Things are beginning to fall off Sick
