Theory test and Mod 1

Hey folks.
I passed my theory test last night and already have my Mod 1 booked for the 30th.
Only had 2 hours so far on a big bike but my instructor thinks im fine for just one 2 hour lesson before my Mod 1 then one more 2 hour slot before my Mod 2..
Was hoping to have it done before the end of the month but everyone else seems to be having the same idea and most of the lessons and tests are already booked Mad

Cant wait to get rid of this 125 and get my Transalp.

Should be fine. I honestly think it's possible to over-practise and turn it into a bigger deal than it is.

For the on road test nothing you have to do is terribly difficult it's more a case of not getting stressed about it. If you can just relax and go out for a nice ''SAFE'' ride you will be fine.

The 30th isn't all that bad, I'm having to wait until the middle-end of next month before getting a shot at the Module 1 for the A2.

IMO a bike with more power is easier to control and feels a lot safer when out on the roads, I noticed several changes in the way I had to adapt to the ride and it all felt a lot more natural rather than having to pump the guts out of a 125 to get anywhere with cars up me arse, allowed for a lot more time to forward plan and dealt with all situations a lot better, it reacts and handles how you want it to.

I've only done one full day of riding on a GS 500 thus far but managed to get some time on the actual test pad as part of that, bike reacted good enough and managed to obtain the required speeds on the high speed maneuvers without trouble once I'd got the knack of it.. if anything the high speed parts are easier than on a 125 because the bike has more power and therefore even if you come out of the bend a little slower than required with the right timing and planning you'll be at the required speed at the trap in no time.

As for Module 2 (based on the training I got) it's the same as an everyday ride just with someone following you and on a bike with more power, in honesty I found having the schools instructor following me telling me where to go and what to do what a whole bunch easier than attempting to do it myself, all I had to do was act like a robot and control the bike, he said out on the test you'd have to do something really dramatic for them to leave you on the roadside and require the training schools instructor to pick you up.

Hardest part about that day for me (once I'd gotten used the power and weight) was learning to relax and actually enjoy the fact I was riding a bike that had sufficient amount of power to have some enjoyment on rather than having to be stressed and use a rather under-powered 125 to get me somewhere.

The bike im using to do my lessons on Kawasaki ER600n has been ridden to death.
The throttle is either accelerate or slow down, there is no holding to a set speed so im constantly having to fettle the bike while riding.
Plus im used to a big Varadero, and the ER is a completely different riding style.
The centre of gravity is totally off from what im used to and the handlebars and pegs are in the wrong place........

But saying that it took all of 5 mins to get used to it

I've passed six practical tests and failed one which was A1 MOD 2 because I stupidly went to it straight off a night shift and cut up a car on a busy roundabout but I was rather tired.

A1 MOD 1 > Passed on my Varadero first time.

A1 MOD 2 > Passed on my Varadero second time.

A2 MOD 1 > I had one lesson the day prior to the test to get a feel for the bigger bike passed first time.

A2 MOD 2 > No lessons unless you count the ride to test centre I passed first time.

A MOD 1 > Stuck Loser plates on my Fazer 600 and derestricted it in the test centre car park so it was now an A bike passed first time.

A MOD 2 > as above passed first time.

Yeah i forgot to mention the engine braking.
I kept being told off for not using the brakes and must have stopped short on all but 2-3 junctions i came to.
In the second hour i was just dropping into 2nd and pulling in the clutch and braking, then if the coast was clear clutch out and ride away.

Glad its not just me or my riding skills then. The bike is to blame.......

Just hope i can get the hang of slow riding it????

Seems to be yeah. I've had a go on an older ER6n&f and it was similar to mine, although it does seem the new ones are a bit better. To be honest, I actually like the engine breaking.

It's only at lower speeds for me. It's fine at motorway/NSL, just at 30 and similar you'll find your speed varies from 30 to 35 with what seems like no hand movement at all
