Hi guys need a bit of advice with this stripped the top end of this city fly I got a while back and forgotten how the timing looked.

I have set the piston to tdc and then lined the cam up so the 2 lines are level with the boss but on hand cranking the engine it would hit the inlet valve so then I flip the cam round 180 degrees and try again and it will hit the exhaust valve..

I cant seem to figure it out will be going back on monday to try again but any advice in the mean time would be appreciated Smile

crank turns twice for one turn of the cam; so flippng cam 180 degrees, has just set the exact same 'timing' in relation to the piston you had before.... try again with the piston at Bottom Dead center rather than top!

Better still; get the Haynes manual, that will tell you the exact timing to use; its the OHC motor. If you struggle to find one specifically for the City-Fly, you may have to get one for one of the other variants that use that engine; the CB125S OHC single or the XL125.. actually looks like Clymar (american equivilent of Haynes) do one that covers pretty much all the Honda OHC upright single derivatives, including the 100's.

ArrrghH Evil or Very Mad

Good few hours of my life wasted trying to time up an engine questioning my ability and sanity...

And in the end the problem is......

Wrong piston Middle Finger Middle Finger Middle Finger Middle Finger Middle Finger Middle Finger Middle Finger

Looks near enough the same but what i never noticed when checking they were a match was that the valve grooves in the top of the piston were slightly smaller and at a different angle.

Old piston back in lined it all up and boom peace of cake just need to source the right piston now Laughing
