Brake calliper

Hi guys, I have a 98 Yamaha XJ600. I need to replace the rear brake calliper, but I can't find one. Would anyone know if there is another I can buy from another bike without replacing all the mountings.

There appear to be loads on ebay?

Yamaha are pretty good for part interchangeability, I wouldn't be surprised if something from a fazer or thundercat would fit, but that's based on nothing by supposition.

Depends why you need to replace it but you can get rebuild kits for around £20

According to a couple of parts sites I've just looked at, that caliper is specific to the XJ I'm afraid

A method I use to find possible alternatives, is to search for the part number of the pads, to get a list of models that they fit.

For example, a search for FA104 cam up with:

Hang on a minute,.....don't you get calipers that use the same pads but are completely different Just cos the pads fit doesn't mean they mount the same way......does it? For example, some bikes use the same pads front and rear, but the calipers are nothing like the same. Try mounting a rear caliper on the front. There are also calipers that use the same pads but some mount on top of the swingarm, some below Don't calipers use diferent size master cylinders too? I hope I'm wromg, but It don't seem very logical to me.
