Hey. Just had my midlife crisis at the dear old age of 31.

On a whim i just decided to go buy a secondhand 2013 Keeway Superlight 125ltd and sat my CBT. This is the first motorcycle ive bought and ridden. (im starting to regret my decision)
At first all seemed good, but the more confident i became on the roads the worse i realised the bike actually was...

I have resolved some issues myself but as i know very little about bikes there are some pretty annoying ongoing issues..

Issues are:

When riding for more than say 15 minutes and i come to a stop the engine occasionally stalls and refuses to turn over (after a lot of F*ing and Blinding ) and a few minutes pass the bike starts and runs as if nothing was wrong.

Secondly when sitting idling and i fully open the throttle the engine bogs and cuts out, like wise when pulling away and i open the throttle fully it does the same, but if i get the revs to around 4000rpm and open it up it works fine.

Now finally the newest problem thats got me stumped is my front RIGHT indicator.
The indicator display light on binnacle works but flashes faster than normal, as does the rear indicator itself, but the front indicator doesn't work. I checked the bulb and its working fine, and tried the indicator when the engine isn't running. it works, but as soon as the engine is running, no front right indicator.

Sorry for the mahoosive speel and im counting the days until i have enough money to buy a decent motorbike

If anyone can give some sort of input to my issues this would be greatly appreciated.

Brian

Hi Brian, welcome.

The best (but probably not useful) advice I can give is sell the Keeway and buy Japanese.

If this is not an option you are going to get pretty good with spanners Laughing

I find that indicator fault rather baffling. The only thing I can think of is that there is something away with the voltage control/rectification when you start the engine but why that would affect one indicator only I have no idea.

Can you measure the battery voltage with and without the engine running?

Even a jap bike will run like shit if its not looked after.
I wouldn't curse a bike that's been poorly serviced, just the previous owner.

I know SFA about Keeways, but it doesn't sound that bad
just in need of some attention.

First remove the plug and check the colour
the colour will give you clues as to what to do next

Indicator: probably just a bad contact or ground
the rapid flashing is normal when a bulb fails.
It may be something more complicated, but start with the simple stuff first

Thanks for getting back so soon.

Have added this to the workshop section also. Thanks.

Checked the spark plug earlier and its quite sooty.

I have no way of checking voltage in regards to the indicator issue. But my first thought was a faulty relay rectifier. Only cost a tenner for a new one.

As advice in workshop.. STOP stabbing in the dark.. get the book, do a proper full DIY service; eliminate the earth issue or short issue by isolating the indy with an extra bit of wire; THEN before delving further, rather than paying £10 for a part you probably wont need to try diagnosis by random substitution, spend a fiver on a multimeter that can measure voltages and check continuity through wires.
Start at the beginning, and work through systematically, not randomly.
They are pretty simple motorcycles designed to be User-Maintained, and the instructions to do that are all in the Haynes book of Chinky 4-stroke 125's.
