Most jackets come with that flexi foam type stuff in the back, elbows and shoulders. Do you bother wearing it? I'd imagine its only good at impact resistance in an off and not much else.
To be honest the trade off of extra comfort without it in is worth it, so i remove it all except the back

Yep, I wear it and I don't feel it. No loss of comfort Very Happy I guess it depends on the jacket/armour.

If it's CE armour then the impact protection is what I'd want it for. Having broken my wrist (distal radius smashed into about ten pieces) and knowing what long term effects it can have, and of course how painful it can be, I'd rather stick with the armour to be honest. Not only that, it can provide some abrasion resistance if fitted properly. The armour in my Triumph cordura jacket moved in the crash I had which meant the jacket wore through and I have a 10p piece sized scar on my right elbow.

I don't want to presume to preach, and it's down to the individual, but the trade-off is worth it until you need it.

And just to show I'm not trying to preach, I'll often wear jeans rather than anything protective on my legs when on the bike. And alas for not having got around to getting a decent back protector before the last off!

All the textile stuff I have has armour, and it stays in, although I had some Spada trousers once where the knee armour stuck out like a couple of duck bills, so that had to go. Fat lot of use it would have been.

I've had one jacket where the armour did annoy me but the other two I have you don't really feel it, so it stays in.

I fell off the enfield at about 30mph, and landed on my right shoulder, elbow, and then headbutted the ground, with a fair chunk of the impact on the chin bar.

Foam armour and a full face hat meant I spent the next 10 minutes swearing at myself for being a dick instead of waiting for an ambulance.

In answer to your question, yes, I always wear the foam armour, and yes, in my one test, it worked rather well.

Never ridden without it fitted. Only ever removed it when putting the gear in the washing machine. Never had an issue about comfort and never realised anyone else did.

Put on trackies and trainers, go outside, run as fast as you can and dive head first towards the road.

Did you do it?

No, of course you didn't, because it would hurt like hell and likely mash you up.

Wear the armour.

You mean with the jacket on too just without the armour? Even that would be an unfair test as i still wear kevlar jeans with armour installed. Plus around the arms on my JTS jacket its pretty padded anyway. I have this exact one:

https://www.jtsbikerclothing.com/shop/motorcycle_clothing/mens_leather_jackets/jts/jts_j200_mens_leather_motorbike_jacket/black.html

If the foam armour really makes a difference i'll reinstall it. I always thought it had a bad rep though, they are just cut out pieces of foam after all.

On my legs I have only ever worn Marks & Spencer budget jeans. On my jacket just shoulder and elbow pads, if I am going local and its hot I do wear shirt & jeans and have faced off against the safety nazi's and tut tutters several times. My boots are a pair of flight boots, sturdy but no armour to speak of.

Depends what you mean by foam.

If it's literally just thin squishy foam, why not replace with CE armour?

Must have what this says:

Removeable CE Protectors in shoulders and elbows.
• Removeable compressed foam back protector.

I always wear armour. I prefer the insert style back protectors, I have a level 2 Forcefield back insert in my favourite
jacket (Currently have 4 jackets). A steal at £10 on ebay, exact shape and size as the knox one supplied with the jacket,
but a fair bit heavier to be honest. I also have dedicated Forcefield and Dianese back protectors, one is flexible and
one is hard and hinged. The Dianese one is comfiest of the 2. Being hinged laterally you don't feel like you
have a plank up your back, its also very light. I don't get on with hip armour, I've tried but its uncomfortable.

But I always wear shoulder and elbow armour and gloves with hard knuckle armour and scaphoid sliders.
I always wear bike boots, and always either leathers, textiles or kevlar jeans on the bottom half. All
with knee armour but I'm yet to find a knee armour that I find really comfortable for any length of time.

I keep the armour in my jackets. Bust my elbow even with a CE pad in there, fuck knows the state I would have been in with no armour.

The backpads in many jackets are not CE though, just shit foam. I found that out after wrecking my spine. They market sneakily declaring "CE armoured" though it only applying to the arms and shoulders.

I take the hip pads out of trousers though, I know I shouldn't but they are stupidly uncomfortable.

Your helmet is just expanded polystyrene, the same stuff your TV came packed in, covered in a thin layer of plastic.

It is only foam, but it provides impact resistance, the wear resistance is provided by your jacket

Eh. Nothing special, I imagine anyone not wearing a jacket has had the same.

Mostly the over the top holier than thou head shaking and eye rolling which receives a piss off from me. You occasionally get them at traffic lights yelling at you to wear gear.

Was an annoying one a couple of months back where I was wearing shirt and jeans, no gloves or jacket. I was approached by a riding instructor who wanted to tell me all about his riding life, and rambled on at me for 10 minutes at my bike about all the great bikes he had owned and how I want a bigger bike, and many other condescending comments suggesting I was a newbie to bikes not letting me get a word in edge ways. In a very English way I politely stood and listened while strapping a weeks shopping to me bike.

Eventually I said I had to be off and as he was walking away he turned and said 'Oh and do yourself a favour and buy some gear, I've got pictures on my phone that make you realise how stupid and dangerous riding without gear is'.

Condescending cunt received much verbal abuse, while he stood there looking baffled as to why I wasn't looking up to his holy self.

Haven't ridden for long but I've always wore my textile padded stuff.

Went to Tesco round the corner the other night, put my jacket on but not the pants, just ha my work pants on and I felt like I was riding naked. Found it more uncomfortable without it on.

I was lucky I came off wearing jeans and a army jacket

Apparently hit a car three times( according to him)

I bust my leg(when it bent round his bumper)but otherwise not a mark on me

Do I wear armour

Only in my jacket if its wet out as leg stuff won't fit without paying more then Ican

Still wear army jacket as well if its not raining

If I could afford stiuff to fit I would have it

I keep my CE armour in as it has never annoyed me and it did protect me very well in a crash unlike the jeans without any armour. Therefore I stopped being a plonker and now wear trousers with armour too.

But, it is your skin and bones. You know the risk of the game. Play away.

I bought a textile jacket about 18 months ago, which is the first thing I've owned with armour in it.

It's deliberately a bit over size, to allow for extra layers when it's really cold, so with the lining removed and just a t-shirt underneath, it's probably two or three sizes too big.

I've never taken it out to look at it, but the armour doesn't feel like much and in loose fit mode, if it stays in place while I'm bouncing down the road, it'll be a bloody miracle.

I'm not uncomfortable with it in (except when I'm resting my elbows on the table at the tea hut) so it stays, but I have absolutely no confidence in it and I wouldn't have cared if it hadn't been in there to begin with.

Frankly, I can't see the point in putting armour in a garment that's going to move around, it's as much good as a crash helmet that instantly flys off on impact.

No.

I ride a cruiser and therefore cannot go fast enough to justify any sort of protection.

My cordura jacket feels like a ton weight with CE back protector, shoulder and elbow protectors, and winter liner, but I wear it 'just in case'.

I hate wearing it when I am off the bike, like carrying a bag of cement on your shoulders, on the bike I don't notice the weight at all.

Trousers are heavy too with hip and knee armour and winter liners, but I don't notice or mind that too much.

But I wear it all 'just in case' of that one time I will need it.

Summer, whenever that is, I wear kevlar jeans with hip protectors and Knox knee armour, still a bit heavy though, but I wear it 'just in case'.

UK, I always wear motorcycle boots and good quality protective winter or summer gloves.

I have a mesh hot weather jacket with armour that I have never yet worn here, either the weather is not good enough or I can't get time to be on the bike.

I take the mesh jacket for trips to warmer places (Far East), I omit the back protector but keep the shoulder and elbow protectors, works OK on the move.

Kevlar jeans are way too warm in hot climates, but I have seen what happens when you come off wearing shorts, so I wear the kevlar jeans with hip armour, tried the mesh Knox knee protectors but they were just too hot and caused my legs to swell up.
If I run into some extra money to splash I might buy mesh motorcycle trousers, being tight I just whip of the jeans and into shorts as soon as I get off the bike, nobody seeing you gives a feck and neither do I, laid back countries and their laid back people are the biz Cool

Abroad I compromise on the footwear and take my chances with mesh trainers that I buy locally, flip-flops are cool but the foot related offs are fkn horrendous.

And mesh gloves for warmer climes, the better ones offer good protection, need to get a new pair for my next trip as I lost them (or they were stolen) last time out, bugger -they were not cheap either.

Helmet I buy locally abroad, open face with visor, full face are just brain cookers unless you are on the move at + 40mph, flip ups are not so easy to come by in most places, you can get them but they weigh a ton. I usually have to go to expensive shopping malls to buy something decent safety wise, lots of places sell helmets much cheaper but feck knows what quality you are buying, sell helmet locally for half price when leaving.

Long post reminds me of someone, but hey I always find myself reading all of tef's long posts.
