Yep, I wear it and I don't feel it. No loss of comfort I guess it depends on the jacket/armour. |

I don't want to presume to preach, and it's down to the individual, but the trade-off is worth it until you need it.
And just to show I'm not trying to preach, I'll often wear jeans rather than anything protective on my legs when on the bike. And alas for not having got around to getting a decent back protector before the last off!
All the textile stuff I have has armour, and it stays in, although I had some Spada trousers once where the knee armour stuck out like a couple of duck bills, so that had to go. Fat lot of use it would have been. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I fell off the enfield at about 30mph, and landed on my right shoulder, elbow, and then headbutted the ground, with a fair chunk of the impact on the chin bar.
Foam armour and a full face hat meant I spent the next 10 minutes swearing at myself for being a dick instead of waiting for an ambulance.
In answer to your question, yes, I always wear the foam armour, and yes, in my one test, it worked rather well. ____________________ Fisty: after polishing the tank with the glistenng beads of sweat from my full hot scrotum, I filled the headrace bearings with 10cc of my manmilk |

Put on trackies and trainers, go outside, run as fast as you can and dive head first towards the road.
Did you do it?
No, of course you didn't, because it would hurt like hell and likely mash you up.

Depends what you mean by foam.
If it's literally just thin squishy foam, why not replace with CE armour? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I always wear armour. I prefer the insert style back protectors, I have a level 2 Forcefield back insert in my favourite
jacket (Currently have 4 jackets). A steal at £10 on ebay, exact shape and size as the knox one supplied with the jacket,
but a fair bit heavier to be honest. I also have dedicated Forcefield and Dianese back protectors, one is flexible and
one is hard and hinged. The Dianese one is comfiest of the 2. Being hinged laterally you don't feel like you
have a plank up your back, its also very light. I don't get on with hip armour, I've tried but its uncomfortable.
But I always wear shoulder and elbow armour and gloves with hard knuckle armour and scaphoid sliders.
I always wear bike boots, and always either leathers, textiles or kevlar jeans on the bottom half. All
with knee armour but I'm yet to find a knee armour that I find really comfortable for any length of time. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

I keep my CE armour in as it has never annoyed me and it did protect me very well in a crash unlike the jeans without any armour. Therefore I stopped being a plonker and now wear trousers with armour too.
But, it is your skin and bones. You know the risk of the game. Play away. ____________________ yzf 600r |

I bought a textile jacket about 18 months ago, which is the first thing I've owned with armour in it.
It's deliberately a bit over size, to allow for extra layers when it's really cold, so with the lining removed and just a t-shirt underneath, it's probably two or three sizes too big.
I've never taken it out to look at it, but the armour doesn't feel like much and in loose fit mode, if it stays in place while I'm bouncing down the road, it'll be a bloody miracle.
I'm not uncomfortable with it in (except when I'm resting my elbows on the table at the tea hut) so it stays, but I have absolutely no confidence in it and I wouldn't have cared if it hadn't been in there to begin with.
Frankly, I can't see the point in putting armour in a garment that's going to move around, it's as much good as a crash helmet that instantly flys off on impact. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

My cordura jacket feels like a ton weight with CE back protector, shoulder and elbow protectors, and winter liner, but I wear it 'just in case'.
I hate wearing it when I am off the bike, like carrying a bag of cement on your shoulders, on the bike I don't notice the weight at all.
Trousers are heavy too with hip and knee armour and winter liners, but I don't notice or mind that too much.
But I wear it all 'just in case' of that one time I will need it.
Summer, whenever that is, I wear kevlar jeans with hip protectors and Knox knee armour, still a bit heavy though, but I wear it 'just in case'.
UK, I always wear motorcycle boots and good quality protective winter or summer gloves.
I have a mesh hot weather jacket with armour that I have never yet worn here, either the weather is not good enough or I can't get time to be on the bike.
I take the mesh jacket for trips to warmer places (Far East), I omit the back protector but keep the shoulder and elbow protectors, works OK on the move.
Kevlar jeans are way too warm in hot climates, but I have seen what happens when you come off wearing shorts, so I wear the kevlar jeans with hip armour, tried the mesh Knox knee protectors but they were just too hot and caused my legs to swell up.
If I run into some extra money to splash I might buy mesh motorcycle trousers, being tight I just whip of the jeans and into shorts as soon as I get off the bike, nobody seeing you gives a feck and neither do I, laid back countries and their laid back people are the biz
Abroad I compromise on the footwear and take my chances with mesh trainers that I buy locally, flip-flops are cool but the foot related offs are fkn horrendous.
And mesh gloves for warmer climes, the better ones offer good protection, need to get a new pair for my next trip as I lost them (or they were stolen) last time out, bugger -they were not cheap either.
Helmet I buy locally abroad, open face with visor, full face are just brain cookers unless you are on the move at + 40mph, flip ups are not so easy to come by in most places, you can get them but they weigh a ton. I usually have to go to expensive shopping malls to buy something decent safety wise, lots of places sell helmets much cheaper but feck knows what quality you are buying, sell helmet locally for half price when leaving.
Long post reminds me of someone, but hey I always find myself reading all of tef's long posts. |
