Speeding Motorbikes - Are Police Interested?

So I've been a car driver for a good few years now, and also have 3 points for doing 45 in a 30, and I know the feeling of constantly thinking there may be a police car down that side road ready to clock me as I go passed, so I really do try to stick to the limit in my car after my points.

But... even my instructor told me it's safer for a bike to go faster than car traffic (within reason obviously) and pretty much every biker I see (excluding scooters etc..) are traveling above the speed limit.

I have only had my license for a few weeks and I do find myself traveling over the speed limit on my bike more than I do in the car, it's fun but I do still worry.

What are your experiences with police and speeding with regards to traveling by bike, are they more lenient when it comes to a bike over a car?

I know of someone that was doing 60 in a 30, in a bus lane and they stopped the car behind him on multiple occasions

Reading between the lines, your instructor is telling you to never to stop for the police because it's much harder for them to catch a bike than it is a car.

That's why it's safer speeding on a bike.

You say you have only had your licence for a few weeks....If you want to hang onto it for a few more weeks keep to the limits. If you want to go fast go to a track.

I've been told, by 3 different BiB, that out in the countryside they're not going to look much at anyone doing less than 100 , so long as you're not riding like a knob (eg, weaving around traffic constantly to make progress).

All speed limits below 50, though - you are fair game, same as everyone else.

Having said that, things happen very quickly at 100 - look at this - and consider you've not been riding long, try and keep the speed down a bit for a while...

I've more or less given up on speeding anywhere that has illumination.

This is a guess!
I assume it's a bit more difficult getting a reading on a bike from a hand held camera and in the countryside they may not be able to hide quite so easily (so have to try from even further away) but if they actually manage it then they'll go to town on you.
For any other type of camera they use, you're just as stuffed as the car driver behind you.
