Hey Folks! I couldn't see a welcome forum, so I thought I'd post in here. 27 year old, did my CBT in may and have my first bike. Honda XR 125 6l. (08 plate).

I'm 6ft6 so needed the larger bike, which is fine, but I saw a beautiful orange and black VanVan recently, but it's just too small!

Anyway. Any tips for a newbie? Also any reccomendations on replacement wing mirrors. The ones on my Honda are a wee bit small, and the left on moves if you go over about 20mph!

Hi Tony. Top tip would be to enjoy the XR for what it is, but get your license done ASAP. Wink

Mirrors are pretty universal, I'm not sure that I could name any brands. Is your left hand one rotating or vibrating?

I'll probably be doing the full licence in early next year. I'm happy enough with the XR, even if it does pretty much top out at 60. You really cant go much faster than that anyway due to the roads in this area, so it's great fun.

The one on the left just feels like there is no resistance in the mirror itself. It just moves and adjusts in the wind!

We all say that, then we look back and go Embarassed

Sad times. There may be a nut behind the mirror glass itself, but that's not much use to you. Have you tried packing any kind of grease behind the stem where it joins the mirror?

I'd stick with the XR as it will do everything you need until you pass your test.

Don't start googling all of the 125 reviews looking for one that does a few mph more that you believe will be your dream bike, because it won't. Just sit your test and a whole new world of great bikes becomes a reality.

Yes, I know that it's a pain listening to all those smug guys telling you to get your licence, but (like giving up smoking) you'll laugh when you've done it and never look back. Learn some roadcraft on your XR and move on to the next level.

I'm genuinely not in any rush to get my full license. As I said, with the roads around here, a faster bike would be moot anyway! Considering our local bus is once every 2 hours, a 60mph bike is MUCH better!

I've tried that with the left mirror it's just a bit crap to be honest. As far as I am aware they are not the original ones anyway. Owner 1 changed them to these crap things!

Welcome to the forum Tony Very Happy

XR is a good bike, you can buy any 10mm thread mirror. OEM ones are rather small you can get them here:

Or get any 10mm one like these:

Neither was I, I rode a 125 for a year.

In hindsight, it was a mistake. Bigger bikes - and I'm only talking 20 - 30 hp or so - offer so much more usable performance.

Up to you, but the first time you ride an A2 or A training bike, I expect you'll do the mandatory "Doh! why did I wait?" Wink

I had the same bike as you at 17 before I took my test.. at 17. Do it sooner rather than later.
