Well I've just come back from a very unfun experiance.

I'm learning to drive a car - and so far have about 5 hours driving experiance in midday/early afternoon bone dry sunlight.

Me mum needed to go to asda to pick up some stuff so we thought it could be some good practice. We left in late afternoon light (quite bright) and a light drizzle every now and again.

1/2 hour later we walk out of Asda into near pitch darkness, torrential rain, and a hopelessly steamed up car (buggered AC).

Nevertheless, optomistic me gets in a starts off. I cant see clearly out of any windows, I'm being blinded by gits with full beam on, and failing miserably at trying to multitask the gears, clutch and seeing anything, plus judging cars speeds and not trying to get hit by stuff.

So there we are, pulling out into a huge roundabout when i cannae see anything, stall it in the middle infont of this fook huge truck (that i didnt see), that slams on the brakes and somehow manages to evade us, me desperately starting it up, slaming my foot on the accelerator, dropping the clutch, somehow wheelspinning this huge lump of steel otherwise known as a vectra estate, sendign it flying accross lanes (that car has worryingly large acceleration) just missing other cars (which I cant see until i pass right past them) and someohwo off our correct exit all the while yelling "foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

The rest of the ride home was just as as nervewraking with the rain somehow intensifying when I get into the town, meaning i'm just getting a dazzling glare from headlight going past me at high speed whilst guessing when i could turn.

Driving at night in torrential rain with a car that cannot desteam itself really sucks! I hope a bikes better than this...

So, if anyone nearly got rammed this evening by a nutter in a silver Vectra estate by the Asda store in Leamington - that was meeeeee!!!

Take unoccupied hand.

Place against windscreen.

Move back and forth or up and down as appropriate.

Continue until visibility is restored.

Repeat at intervals as necessary.

Thumbs Up

bendy:

was doing repeatedly, and that was half the problem. Trying to steer (not used to it yet, so when I only use 1 hand I tend to weave all over the place) and change gears, and look around all the time:

fecking difficult.

Also, with the rate that the rain was coming down, I would have been drenched within 20 secs had I opened the window, and all the electronics stuff on the door would have been buggered. Anyway, I was too nervwracked to think of things like that!!

Thats quite a nasty experience to have for your first time driving.
The best thing to do is just keep at it, even if you do crash the car Shocked just get back on the roads as soon as possible.

Learning to drive from my experience is all about confidence.

Even though it can be uncomfortable, it can be quite handy to use the heater in the car to demist the windows.

It can be quite unpleasant driving in torrential rain. Although a couple of things you got to look forward to is:

- Aquaplaning
- Ice
- Fog that's so thick you cannot see the end of your bonnet.

It's worst when it's freezing fog and you are on a bike.
It freezes to you visor, and when you get off at the end of a journey your jacket is crusted with ice!
