Apart from the fact they rust like most Suzukis anything specific to look out for on these bikes?

Hope to view one this week with the intention of buying if all checks out. Bikes fairly standard with an exception of the Yoshimura RS3 exhaust, shotgun tail lights (which I dislike) and a rear hugger. Has 20k miles and a folder with all MOT's & receipts for any work done for £2,000. I'll be happy paying up to £1900 but will aim to pay £1800. The bike also has a years MOT on it.

Things I plan to check regardless :
Fork seals
Suspension (after a friend recently bought a GSX750F with a shagged rear shock and front end)
Starting the bike from cold and checking once warmed up for odd noises
Brakes (make sure they're not spongy, sticking and pads are ok)
Consumables, ensure theres life in then (if not, bargaining point)
History (has a folder of receipts and MOT's), check most recent Mot for advisories.
Wheel bearings & headstock bearings
Then take it to a test ride, wack it in every gear if possible and pin it to ensure it doesn't slip out of gear.

Can't think of what else to check but sure I've missed stuff, feel free to add to my list Thumbs Up

All three of my previous gsxrs (600 k1/k2, 1000 k2/3?) have been very well built, so don't compare the build quality to that of budget Suzukis.

Not much to look out for specifically apart from obvious signs of abuse.

The K1 had a mild steel exhaust system, k2 onwards stainless.

Two or so years ago I paid £1450 for a K2 6 that was near immaculate, so 2k seems a bit on the steep side.

Great bikes though. A league ahead of the SRADs.

Look on the swing arm behind the footpeg for drop damage, no one seems to fix them up and gives away the "never crashed m8" story.

Would just do the usual checks, if you can get the front wheel off the floor, check head bearings etc.

Nice bikes, very roomy.

Have you looked at 750's? For £2k you could probably get a reasonable 750 W/X/Y (1998-2000 with EFI).

Not a fan of the SRAD's in terms of styling, which is a shame as they're highly regarded but the looks just put me off massively (the huge rear tail mostly and the old school looking rectangular front headlight).

Have been scouting ebay and gumtree and £2k at the minute seems a decent price for a <20k miles, good history and good nick K1-K3 600.

As a bit of an update:

Been trying to get hold of this guy for two days with no luck, but this is the bike that I really want to view and want to buy if all checks out - clicky

Also spoke to this guy today, wouldn't take £2k but may see if he'll meet in the middle of my offer and his asking price, if the above GSXR is sold or if he continues to not respond. - clicky

People's thoughts on the two bikes?

Friends owns a K2 GSXR 600, it's not standard (GSXR1000 K4 front end, different rear shock too IIRC, so better brakes and probably better suspension and also has a power commander) and it's worlds apart. In comparison to my Bandit, it's amazing, soo much more fun to ride and that extra 20-ish bhp is very noticeable.

Erm...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-GSXR-750-Y-23-000-MILES-FULL-MOT-may-px-2-stroke-or-400-/301671164645?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item463d00aae5

Would have that instead, far nicer than a 600.

I bought a k1 Gixxer in Feb paid £2200, but it was mint, only had 3900 miles on it when i viewed it. Everything was in decent nick.

When i was looking people near me where asking for about £2500 for decent examples.

People on here advised me that it was a bit steep but i was happy with the price and that's all that matters. Do your research see how much similar bikes actually go for instead of what there advertised as and settle on a price you are happy with.

I love my gixxer, handles very well and is better than i am in every respect. Brakes may be a bit spongy but thats just suzuki brakes which can be sorted out with some decent brake pads and braided lines.

Good luck finding one.

The 750 would be considered a big 600 rather than a small 1000. Its got a little more low down poke and to be honest, I'd consider it silly sticking with a 600. Might as well step up a little. Thumbs Up

I've decided on the second GSXR that I posted.

12,000ish miles, years MOT, looks very clean with no bolt on tat, good amount of history, not too far away from me & completely unmolested.

We've settled on £2,200. Bit over the odds but it is perfect for me and i'm willing to pay that tad extra for a clean, low mileage, unmolested bike which has good history.

Collecting it tomorrow or Wednesday, very excited! Very Happy

The 2nd Gixxer was the better of the two you posted so well done there. Thumbs Up

However, do agree with Paddy - the 750 was a seriously good option.

Looks a nice bike and probably the one I would have gone for too Thumbs Up

Bit cheeky of him to stick to his guns at £2200 though!

Click 'buy it now' at £2250 and he will have to give up over £200 in fleabay and paypal costs Neutral

Got one!

It's black and silver with a tad of red, will upload pictures tomorrow evening.

K3/53 reg, 8,600 miles , 1 year MOT, full service history, every single MOT from new and completely standard bar the R&G crash bungs, power bronze carbon fibre hugger and an iridium screen. Also has an immobiliser and alarm, unsure which kind though.

So far I've ordered:
Tinted black double bubble screen, LED indicators, headlight protector, black tank pad sticker (to replace the current hideous green snake skin effect tank pad sticker) & an 8x6 plate.

On the list to buy :
Aftermarket exhaust, but nothing too loud
Colour coded seat cowl
Braided lines

First impressions :
As I expected, its worlds apart from the Bandit, much quicker, smoother and stable. Also managed to raise the front wheel by accident in 1st with the OH pillion Laughing

Much more cramped than I thought, wrists and neck hurt when I got home after my fairly short 40 miles motorway journey, according to friends I'll adjust to this after a few rides.

It's revvy and a very good handling bike, also after experiencing the journey back on the motorway with a faired bike at 155 indicated and more to go.... Doubt I'll own a naked bike again, fairings are a god send lol.

Things to do:
Bleed brakes
Replace the old tyres, theyre dated 2008 and don't feel all that (have a pair of supercorsa scrubs to put on)
Remove all the stickers the previous owner put on.

Extremely happy with it! I also only paid £2,000 for it, so decent price too imo.

What are you, 7 feet tall?

They are one of the more roomy 600s so I think your pain is due to being tense (without realising) riding a new bike. Once you get used to it and relax more you shouldn't have any aches.

Coming from a Bandit to a GSXR, yeah, it felt cramped, even though i'm not 7ft Laughing

You're probably right, I have probably been a bit tense when riding it as I'm still getting used to the bike. Got tomorrow and thursday booked off work to go out and enjoy the bike, so will hopefully become more relaxed and used to the riding position soon.

I've saved myself that £200 now + brothers doing another track day next month, Mallory Park I think , may go along with him. Brother also owns a 750 K4 track bike, so may also get a cheeky ride on that Very Happy
