In an effort to try and start an interesting discussion, would you run from the police if they were trying to stop you?

Generally I wouldn't but there are some times I would do, or would give it some serious thought.

If it was a traffic police car or bike, then I'd stop 99% of the time, unless it was whilst doing silly speeds like 130+, but even then wouldn't do so unless I could see myself actually escaping and not just running from them as that only makes it worse when they catch up with you. Only time I think I could see myself running would be if I was close to somewhere I knew I could dump the bike and not be caught dumping it, somewhere I knew where I could go after dumping the bike, and somewhere I knew I'd be able to outrun the police like country roads I know well (hell, the police don't manage to navigate them when they've been called because of the house alarm going off Laughing ) but would give it lots of thought before the point of no return when you twist the throttle and take off. If it was a normal patrol car then I'd be more inclinded to do so as most cars won't stand a chance of being able to come close to keeping up so would expect I'd have fairly high chance of getting away.

Would have to have been doing something very serious for me to actually be considering it I think as it's not worth the extra risk unless you're really fucked whatever. So mainly no, but I would be very tempted if the situation was right. Twisted Evil

And before anyone asks, no I haven't ever run from the police. Laughing Razz

I think that would rather depend on what I had done.

Right now, as a boring law-abiding person, no, never.

In the right circumstances, if I had done something truly awful like murder, who knows?

True, but before the thread goes too much that way, I'm talking about if they were wanting to stop you for a traffic offence, and not for something else (so not you were carrying drugs or something else they'd be interested in). It's a whole different game if they were wanting to stop you for something else as there are so many other things the police might be interested in you for Smile

Think pretty much everyone if they were willing to murder someone wouldn't think twice about not stopping for the police. Laughing

if i had a vehicle capable of getting away then probly, the adrenaline rush would be amazing, till you got home and realise you just lost your licence and may be facing jail

in this day and age its not really practical to do a runner, you cant hide on this island

but 30 years ago, when men were men, then maybe it might have been a fair idea to give it a go, and leg it

i remember seeing police camera action where they pulled this guy on a bike

so he pulled over safely

waited for the cops to get out of the car

they started walking upto him

and he just zoomed off at a rate of knots Shocked

amazing feat

but i would pull over unless there was a dead cert way

say at night, zoom off out of view and turn off my engine/lights and watch them go past

only if i know they didnt get my numberplate

Number plate isn't too much an issue I don't think, as you can just report it stolen, just make sure you can make a belivable cover story for where you were at the time so they don't suspect you. Would also be worth leaving your helmet and kit elsewhere and borrowing some of someone so they can identify you from it.

And pulling over, and waiting until they walk over to you is a very good idea actually. Laughing Smile Twisted Evil

Normally, of course I'd stop.

But if I had the vital evidence which revealed the government conspiracy to re-introduce Paul Daniels to prime-time tv... and the police were chasing me on the direct orders of a shadowy government official...

I'd never do a runner, we had a lad killed at the bottom of our road a few years back.

All they wanted to do was tell him his back light wasn't working, he took off, lost it on a bend and ploughed through a set of railings.

All for a back light.

The trouble is, half the time they might want to pull you for something stupid.

I mean bloody hell, I got let off after being pulled doing 67 in a 40...........

I ran from the police once years ago, but in a way that it was not obvious. I may have posted this already, I can not remember.

I was going up the A12 towards Norwich, or it may have been the A11, always mix them two roads up.

Anyway, this was back in 1992, there I am in my 405 turbo diesel cruising at a nice 95mph on an open dual carriage way. I was approaching a slight crest in the road, still going a at over 90mph, as I went over the crest, BANG, there was a police man on his knees with his lazer gun targeted on the crest.

Now his car was parked a good 200 yards away from his stealthy position and as I wizzed past I noticed him jump up, grab the box on the floor that the speed gun was attached to and start running back to his police car.

At this point I floored it! Nice open road, clear outside lane, I stood a chance! I absolutely cained my piece of shit deisel car, 105...................... 110....................... 115............ You get the idea.

I passed a couple of lorries and a car and notice that the dual carriage way was coming to an end. So now, with a heart rate of 180 BPM, I was frantically looking for a turn off so I could hide away. There were none! I was now stuck in traffic doing about 50 mph Sad Whilst I had made an attempt to get away, I was not going to start over taking madly on an A road and put others and myself at risk. Oh and also become a criminal!

Then in my mirror I could see the lorries I passed with their left indicators on as this mass of flashing lights was carving through the two way traffic.

I then saw a lay by and thought, enough of this and pulled over.

Got a fixed penalty from a very nice police man, he talked to me quite nicely about it and said, "you have been caught speeding, do not dwell on it, just accept it, relax and get on with your journey...."

He clocked me at 91mph, I was happy with that! Smile

Sorry about the long post, but the answer is yes, in a very certain situation I would have a go. If they were on my tail, I would give up immediately!

Or do what i have done before, and it works!

When police try pulling you, continue on at a legal speed, round corner after corner until you lose them.

I was pulled and didn't stop, kept driving round till i finally reached home and pulled in and turn lights off/ducked down and police drove past.

I didnt run, once before though it didnt work and they caught me, i innocently claimed i didnt realise they were trying to pull me, and simlply got told not to do it again. Innocence is king. Karma

Nope, never.

Even if i had a bike capable of doing well over twice the national limit, i still wouldn't risk it. I'd probably end up coming off or being caught.

Still, i haven't been pulled yet and don't want to be Smile

I'd stop, and plead ignorance.... Being female, and almost blonde this should be something I could get away with.

"I thought the clock was in Km officer"

"The number plate came with the bike and when it was MOT'd no one said anything"

erm, I'm sure some wonderful excuse would come to me at the time, failing that, I've said it before, crying may help matters. Crying or Very sad

I wouldn't for a second consider running on the Bros, even if it was a police cyclist that was pursuing me. Laughing

If I had a less shiite bike it would depend on the circumstances, perhaps if there was an escape route across some fields and I was relatively certain that there were no helicopters about. But to be honest I have now been pulled over on four seperate occasions while breaking the law, but have only got done once, so in my book the odds aren't too bad on the 'blagging it' front.
