Hello.

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I'm planning on making a bike game. I'm going to make the bike/rider models in 3D Studio Max, and I need some reference images to use as viewport backgrounds.

Here's what I need:

Side view of a bike *
Front view of same bike *
Various shots from all around bike, for reference

Side view of rider in leathers/helmet **
Front view of rider in leathers/helmet **
Various shots from all all around rider, for reference

* = Camera must be 20-24 inches from ground, and bike MUST be stood upright (either on a paddock stand or someone holding it).

** = Camera must be 36 inches from ground and rider must be standing up, feet shoulder-width apart with arms out to sides in a 'crucifix' position if you get my meaning.

Can anyone provide this?

Plenty of Honda reference shots floating around the net. I built my R1 model using Front and side shots I found.

I never did completely finish it (full detail and yokes controls etc), this shot is mirrored which is why the exhaust is on the wrong side.

How do you do that? Is there a program that does it or something?

Its going ok... only so much I can do without a bike/rider model. Confused

I'm really just toying with a few ideas... trying to get volumetric fog to happen, sussing out how many objects I can realistically get in there at once etc, also found a nice physics engine which I might look at using.

No idea GFK, it was a first attempt at modeling something like a bike, mostly do Architectural structures and spaceships for movies, so am used to more angular modeling not all these curves. The polygon count would be way to high for a game though and the general construction is wrong and too detailed.

And rsooty, I use Cinema4D, you make it vertice by vertice, there's no magic 'Create' button unfortunately. There's shortcuts using splines and extrusions and so on but nothings simple.

I keep trying to get 3D studio Max Release 3 working - no such luck Sad.

The few times it did work i found it stupendously complicated - unless I wanted to render a teapot in flat colours with three directional lights Rolling Eyes .

My best work so far... (I had an interest in designing futuristic weapons Laughing ).

I know someone who's doing a course on that, but there must be a way where you can use your bike pictures as a design instead of having to build it from scratch?

You do, that's how I did the R1. You use the profile shots as a background so you can lay points in the correct places and get the scale right on the XY, then use the front/rear shots to align the vertices in the Z direction, generating a 3D model.
