Been getting some horrible crunchy/grating/rubbing vibrations from somewhere, so bad I thought something expensive was dying, however wheel bearings are tight, chain and sprockets seem ok, no iffy links or broken teeth and engine's running fine, so I'm assuming it's the pos plastic speed sender on the front axle.

So question.. Does the sender come apart so I can check if it is the cause of the noise, or do I just wait for something to go bang?

I'm not sure if it's mechanical or fully electronic.

Simple answers to, can I take it apart?:
Mechanical: Yes, those things can get damaged, worn. So can the cable and the in clock mechanism.
Electronic: Not really and there are no moving parts in the sensor.

the catalogue shows a speed sensor as 4YR-83755-02 and the rotor sensor as 4YR-2517G-00?

From the diagram - i assume the rotor spins round with magical magnets or something and sends a pulse to the speedo...? There's no other breakdown of components in each bit though.

From a quick google on the part no, it appears failure is quite common
