Hi guys, bit of a newbie question........

I was checking my tyres on the weekend and noticed on the rear tyre there seemed to be a lip forming across the back part of the tread? Is this normal wear, or is it something i should be concerned about??

Tyres are Pirelli Diablo's btw

Thanks in advance.... Confused

Where on the edge of the tyre? If so not cracks in the rubber, just excess flashing i think.......

All I see is a tyre getting very good edge-to-edge action, so a big Thumbs Up from me. Carry on.

Not the easiest to follow, but the answer is in the cupping / scalloping section at:
https://www.rattlebars.com/tirewear/index.html#CUPPING

If you think on it further you can tell (by which side of the tread block is worn) whether your wear is from cornering force or acceleration/deceleration force.
If your bike weight, and how hard you accelerate/brake at each lean angle exactly match what the tyre designer expected then the forces on the tyre will be along (rather then across) the big tread blocks (i.e. parallel with the grooves), and this wear at the edges of the blocks will not happen.

Cheers Marlin!

This does make some sense, especially the bit explaining the pencil rubber.

I like to ping it as i am coming out of the bends so this is probably the result....... Laughing

my explanation from gleaned a working knowledge ..
the leading edge deforms under load .. a burr forms of material forced over and out..
