Hi all

I'm currently in a job where I get the luxury of secure underground parking with my company, totally free.

I'm interested to hear if I'm just lucky or whether this is quite common.

The possibility of a new job in mind, I'm just wondering whether I may have to park on the road or public car park which may sway my mind of going for the job in the first place.

So, where do you park? And do you pay for the privilege?

It depends a lot upon your company and where it is. Every company except the last two I've worked for has had plenty of free car parking.
The last one had no parking at all - but if I went into the office it was by train (fully expensed) or by bicycle (left in the office).
The current company has very limited car parking at head office, which is allocated and has a long waiting list. Car drivers have to try to find a space on surrounding roads. There is more than sufficient free bike parking behind security gates by goods in. Other offices for this company have free surface parking.

other, on the town bridge, I can ride between the bollards and there is motorcycle parking space there, next to the bicycle racks, but it isn't a car park

I rarely ride to work, but will this Friday as need to get off sharpish when I finish at lunchtime.

On the rare occasions I have to travel elsewhere for work, I can claim mileage and parking on expenses, so I will find what I deem to be the safest place to park, which might not be the cheapest.

The company I work for has covered bike parking for over 100 bikes. It started a few years ago as part of a drive to reduce congestion in the area.

Other: street furniture on private land.

..

As much as I like the bike sometimes (on rare occasions) it's easier just to leave it and go out without it. Some times trying to find parking or somewhere to leave it without having to worry about getting a ticket or being nicked consumes to much time and is far to much hastle, thankfully for me that's on social trips and not with work.

If a job with more hours and better pay came along and I was in the position to switch I wouldn't say no based on not having anywhere to park the bike, I'd get on the bus or the bicycle and work around it.

Private car park for bikes or if you're lucky enough to have have a badge. Otherwise on the public road with your car. The amount of staff in the office far outweigh parking in the area. Long road besides office that is with cars parked both sides of the road without spaces for 300 yards.

Old job was lucky enough to have private motorcycling parking too, although publically accessible, before that I used to park in the garden of the office (converted house).

Just been lucky really.

Work in London. Free to park everywhere except for Westminster, where it's £100/year or something.

Almost always get a space, except in the City, where I often have to use the underground car park. It's free, and obviously more secure, but depending on where I am that day it can be a bit of a walk.

Underground car park, with dedicated motorcycle bays.
24/7 manned security, CCTV and behind 2 big military grade gates.
And I always get a spot as i'm in early. Mr. Green

I park in one of Glasgow's many dedicated solo motorcycle parking bays. One happens to be located right outside the office I work in every other week when I'm up here.

On the footway, under a no parking sign, slap bang outside the city traffic wardens' lair.

Sounds a bit <BodyGuard>, is <TrueStory> though.

Can validate Rogs comment. Have driven by his bikes a number of times in their 'taunting meanie' position.
As for myself, back door of work, beside the bike racks and the elite top brass car spaces. Oh how they frown when I'm getting my gear on some evenings.

Umm, Mr. Borg, Bodyguard is no more. He's Mr Gs1 now for some bizarre reason. Wonder if he's been sacked and if so, who's looking after the Princesses / Queen / toilet blocks!!!!

Currently working in an office block with parking under the building where the permanent staff park their bikes, bicycles and where the Big Chiefs land their company Mercs. There's CCTV and a front desk monkey.

Much better than parking on-street and having to fight to get the bike out after work, plus it stays dry and less chance of scrotes having it away.

There's room for some bikes under our building in unused space, but building manager, he say no. Pay monies or GTFO. Crying or Very sad

Well, since I'm tucked away up a dead end street, that's not at all creepy. Shocked

I park for free in the underground carpark at work - 1 Wimpole Street, Westminster (right behind Oxford Street and next to Cavendish Square).

It's fairly secure, CCTV too. Only incident I've had is when someone scratched Paddy's TL when I borrowed it, with a crate they were transporting Mad

Park in the work grounds but 5 mins away from my office. This means that I'm right under CCTV camera, have the option to park under the cycle rack hood if it's raining, and am also close to the showers / drying facility.

We've just been told that all car-ists will now have to pay £50 a year to park, but there will only be 300 spaces available between 700 tenants. Still plenty of room for bikes, so I'm alright Jack.

I park right outside the front door of my place of work. It's a public car park mostly used by employees. No need for security, just remove the key from the ignition. Razz

My locale isn't yet so grossly overpopulated they've had to resort to burrowing into the earth for space. My free parking is a section of outdoor carpark that has been bollarded off to stop cars blocking fire engine access. Makes a private motorcycle bay just for me.
