PostPosted: 18:34 - 14 Jul 2015    Post subject: License question Reply with quote

Right, I've got my cbt tomorrow and they've sent me an email that's prompted a question about my license. The email asked me to bring my license and said "The licence must show provisional entitlement for Category A (motorcycles and scooters) or Category AM or P (mopeds)."

Now my license just has B, B1 and fkp.

I've read the dvla website which says:

You automatically get provisional entitlement to these categories with a full B (car) licence: B+E, G & H.

Does that mean I need to apply for a provisional specifically to ride a motorcycle? I've never heard that and I've read a few threads here and o the dvla website but can't find a straight answer.

I would have thought I automatically have provisional entitlement but am now not so sure!

Hope you can help.

Cheers

As far as I'm aware all full car licenses come with a provisional motorbike entitlement (don't quote me on that).

You used this?

With counterparts being binned, are training schools now verifying provisional A online? If so, they need to assplain that clearly beforehand so that people can generate the passcodes.

When I got my first licence, a motorcycle provisional, it had a two year limit on it. If I didn't pass in those two years then no bike provisional for a year. Seems a bit mad nowadays.

Yes exactly - did mine this morning. Had to take along national insurance number so they could check it.

I reckon that at this point the actual piece of plastic is really just a form of photo ID. Anyone who needs to know is going to ignore it and check online anyway.

That's exactly what the cbt bloke said, it's good for ID and that's about it.

Is this the whole "A" entitlment that allows you to ride a 79' tri but is confusing people because they think that they have a full license?

It tells you there are restrictions for the AM - why no click More information?

Says A - but you no click More Information. How can we click those buttons for you?

19th January 2013 is when the 3DLD came in. Thinking

I suspect that they've epically spacked that one up.

You could give them a call, but remember: the DVLA never make mistakes, so if their site insists that you've got full A, then there's no way you can prove that you don't.

Yup, that's the "trike" endorsement. You got that as a freebie with your B (car) entitlement.

There seems to be a problem with their site not showing this endorsement on A entitlements. On the face of it, their definitive source is telling the world that you have full A. Brick Wall
