Bumped!

Sorry, can't help you but what makes a classic bike "classic", according to those "lovely", Rolling Eyes , insurance drones, is it just an age related thing and, if so, what's the cut off year?

There is one I would recommend you never touch with a bargepole, CN.

Noted Thumbs Up

On the flipside, I've got a multi-bike classic policy with CN, four bikes, shit London postcode, £220 FC; I haven't made a claim yet (famous last words Shocked ) so maybe that's when it all goes the way of the pear, but no problems thus far.

In answer to someone else's question, what constitutes a classic is age related, but it varies from company to company - some say it's 21, others 25, a few 30 years old.

IIRC, I had to swap from 'classic' to 'modern classic' when I bought a bike that was less than 25, but more than 21, in practice it made eff all difference to my premium.

I know that some classic car forums seem to get good deals, I wonder if that's the same with bikes Thinking Trouble is, none of them I've ever tried seem to like endorsments Thumbs Down

I don't have any endorsments at the mo (again, famous last words Shocked ) so I can't comment on that, but not all 'we give club discount' ads mean much.

When I first got quotes for the Corvette, the company that made the most noise on the club forum started by not recognising the model (only the second best selling model in the history of the Vette Rolling Eyes ) then came up with a quote that was four times the price of the cheapest.

Annoyingly, after 3 years of super service with the cheapest company, this time it's gone up by 40% for no reason, so a confrontational phone call is in the offing.

What I would do is phone every company/look at every comparison website, then pick the one which you most like and go with that.

Everyone has a shit story to tell about insurance companies, as much as everyone has a winrar story; there isn't a right answer to your question, just more confusion

After years classic insurance and no NCD accrued
I told Fj to shove it and got normal bike insurance and saved 50 odd quid.
It's a load old bollocks IMO.
Best advice, shop around and haggle like hell

From my very limited experience of such things (mainly with by brother owning various old cars), it appears that the main attraction in a classic policy is in the agreed value bit (my 30 year old vehicle isn't worth £250 scrap value but £5000 as it's in factory condition). Assuming a reasonable no claims and endorsement history and fairly low annual mileage (as you'd expect from a classic enthusiast who spends time polishing and showing rather than using) then you don't seem to actually save much.

I've never managed to save more than a token amount, which wasn't worth letting no-claims expire for.

Hi

I am with Footman James, originally with Aon (who bought FJ). The cost saving for the bikes on the classic policy was massive at the time (on a normal policy the Bimota cost a fortune).

At the time they would do classic insurance at 10 years old, and even would cover bikes if the average age was 10 years old (hence I landed up with an Aprilia RS125 under 9 years old that was on a classic policy).

Note that with FJ being in an owners club can make a massive difference. Knocked mine down by 1/3.

All the best

K
