A cheque in the post for £83. Tax rebate. Better than a kick in the nuts, and not a bad way to start the day.

I know someone whose had a few books published. When she has a new idea, she says all she does is write up a brief synopsis of the story and a short extract and then sends that to every single publisher/agent she can find.

She doesn't start writing anything at all until someone is interested.

I have no idea if this is normal practice but I guess it saves her wasting her time by writing an entire novel that no one wants to publish.

I think that only works if you've previously been published, it's like having a credit rating.
I have a few bits here and there from failed attempts in the past, which I could probably edit to fit in other stories if the original idea was changed/rejected.

Failed how, submitted and not accepted and declined or failed personally and not continued to write.. as before I have no experience with submissions (yet) but the latter I would suggest picking it back up when you feel the time is right, one day you'll open it back up and start chipping away at it.. attempting to force yourself to write has the opposite of the desired effect.

As before plan it all out before hand and writing is the easy part, I put together a list of "Character names, the plot, location of book, title and then a notes of each chapter after it had been written", that one's currently eight chapters in on only half way through the third paragraph of the planned plot, when writing it I found holes in the plot and added more chapters to add detail, only chapters with about three pages thus far as a rough sketch as it's the first one (story) i'm ever writing, that is if I decide to stick with it.

Sounds like you could do a short series, 1, 2 and possibly 3 books based on the above why not write a story from one point of view with multiple characters and then use your "failed attempts" to write part of the story before or after the book before it.

I did find this today.. Just another formatting website, may come in handy, helped for me as I prefer visual learning rather than attempting to read my prior links and understand what it's meant to look like, also had some extra helpful tips rather than the same old advice on a different site.

Oh it's just bits that I've written out whenever I've had a flash of inspiration, or had a super good idea for a book and got down a couple of pages until I don't know where to take the story next and then never got back to it.

Getting my wifes 16 year old brother to come and visit a prospective college with me next week after
he point blank refused when his parents tried. Told him stuff about me he never knew despite knowing
me since he was 2 and about how I fucked up all my chances when I was his age and instead got into drugs
and lots of trouble with the Police. I think hearing my tale opened his eyes a bit and he's going to give it a go
and see what's on offer there for him. I also managed to get him to agree to give the St Johns R.I.S.E. scheme
a whirl as it could get him an extra qualification and will get him socialising a bit, he's quite quiet and a bit
of a loner so meeting some new people will be good for him. He's quite a caring kid and I can see him having a
career in social care or similar. He's shown some interest in being a Paramedic so some kind of relationship
with St Johns will be a good foundation for that as well.
I feel like a proper big brother (in law) today. Cool

Take a look at the different types of books, fiction, horror etc and visit a library and read a few or purchase some cheap ones of amazon for like £3.90 and see if they spark an idea. Next time you get a good idea write it down as a plan rather than attempt to start a story itself, that way you've got a layout for a potential story rather than a few pages and less than one complete chapter. Do you have anything that's happened in your past to use and spin ideas around that, not using real names but made up characters and then changing events to make them more dramatic.. just one idea. I only suggest buying some books or reading some because that way you get an idea as to what your aiming towards to what you do and don't like about similar books in that genre, how you want to story to differ etc.

As I'm personally writing because I enjoy it rather than because I need to I find that I've spent most of my time so far writing one chapter at a time, leaving it, and then going back to it latter on in the day. Sadly I don't have any of my old material, I used to write short stories or god knows what but delete them because I thought they where useless, never now if when you get round to writing something all your combinations of ideas might be able to put a spin on a story or add a few more chapters.

Major road just near me is closed off, mucho traffic diversion.

Unfortunately right onto a dual carriageway where today they coned off a lane for half a mile up to a busy roundabout leading to a massive tailback.

Nobody actually working in the coned off area, of course.

Hey, it turns out that scattering a few cones around doesn't actually prevent a motorcycle from using that lane. Who knew? Dance!

Had the 16yo brother in law working with me all day
Met with the Father in law and one of my other brothers in law at a nice pub this evening to drop him off
and had a nice pint in the sun bought by Father in law.
I've never, ever been for a drink with my own Dad in my entire life.

(Two days ago).. Passing the Module 1 for the a2, not that I remember it mind the entire days a giant blur, keep looking at the certificate to ensure it actually exists.

&. Was going to order some more books of amazon but discovered six books for a tenner on the works website, not the same books mind but I just ordered ones I liked the look of and sounded interesting, shall see when they arrive if they're worth it, I think I may have gotten bitten by the "discount bug" and purchased for the sake of the deal, either way a good deal imo. (£1.99 for some books, cheap as chips).

2 things today so far.

1. Just had a sliced fresh strawberry inside a buttered Tescos finest all butter cherry scone with a cup of strong coffee.
Absolutely delicious.

2.Received a text from the Father in Law this morning which said.

"We think Jordan has really stepped up the last couple of weeks working with you. You must be getting something right there! Cheers Garry."

Jordan is my 16yo Brother in Law who I've been trying to motivate with the offer of a moped if his GCSES
are up to par. Had him working on a renovation job with me all week and he's been very helpful. I have swapped
work for work as he wants to pimp his bedroom at home and I will do the work required for him as payment
for him working for me this week. He needs more storage, wants a ceiling fan, remote dimmer switch so
he can operate the lights from his bed, and a few other odd jobs. Plus some fitted wardrobes with locks on
to keep his younger brother from nicking his clothes.

Oiling my gears later will be home made burgers, then a trip to the cinema to see TED 2 and maybe later, some other act of
gratitude from the wife for taking her younger brother under my wing.

I went through my pile of post and shredded everything that wasn't a bill or statement. Small scale destruction of post amused me as did unclogging the shredder when I got a little carried away.

Very Happy
