Fella walks into my workplace (I run a car body/mechanical repair shop) and asks me, in Spanish, if I speak Spanish - my knowledge runs to being able to order some beers, but I understand the question and reply in the negative.

He then mumbles into his phone and I get a rough approximation of what he's said, relayed back to me by what sounds like Alexa's autistic cousin, where I gather he wants a mechanical job doing.

I'm now thinking this is going to be a very long and fruitless conversation, involving both of us talking into his phone and getting an appalling and barely intelligible translation, which we try for a bit and I learn that what he actually wants is a job as a mechanic, so he can improve his non existent English.

Now, I couldn't possibly employ this bloke - we aren't hiring anyway, but even if we were, we aren't geared up for carrying passengers, especially if it involves teaching/learning a whole new language (much as I wouldn't have minded a mutually beneficial relationship) so I had to turn him down, but as he left, giving me a cheery wave and wishing me a good day (still in Spanish) I couldn't help but admire the bloke.

I can't even get English people to apply for jobs I've advertised, but this guy comes in, bold as brass, asking for a job where he can't even manage basic communication, but wants to learn.

Restores my faith in the work ethic and I really hope he finds something Thumbs Up

My consultants bought me a bunch of flowers because facial discombobularion.
I know it's not much and I know they can afford it, but it was just a nice gesture.

If I end up living on the streets Mrs HT as part of her new job can now literally show me the door.

Dead proud of her.

Today, I upgraded my father's computer by cloning his 10+ years old system HDD to a brand new SSD. The goal was to keep all the data and everything as it was before, but better (faster, more responsive). After that, I told him to check his computer. The look on his face when he pushed the power on button and the whole thing booted into Windows in maybe 10-15 seconds and then he clicked at stuff and stuff was instantaneously happening,... priceless, and that oiled my gears today.

I thought it looked like Greta at first, but no, it's Wednesday Addams and Uncle Fester.

We went to see Horse McDonald do a solo concert this evening. What an amazing singer and performer. She did two sets with plenty of banter between songs. Gears well and truly oiled. Thumbs Up

I had another really nice chinwag on the phone with an old flame this afternoon. We've had a couple of chats since he showed back up, but still haven't actually met up.
I wish he didn't live so far away (up North somewhere)

Back then I was mostly interested in his trousers.
But now I am interested in ...
No, who am I kidding.

If only he lived nearer Rolling Eyes

Laughing

The best bit was the bar steward who had been instructed to use a gloved hand for used glasses only and do everything else with his other hand, and pulling the pints with his elbow.

He looked mightily pissed off when we got there at mid day. I wonder how the rest of his day went.

What did he use to stir the cocktails? Laughing

Do you know what oiled my gears today?

seeing two women......of a lower class............have a full on fight.....over a loaf of bread........normally I don't watch fights as I find them stupid.........but seeing these two literally go for each others throats....... (actually lots of flailing their arms around and a bit of hair pulling) was kinda comical Twisted Evil

It had to be broken up by security, and they both got chucked out the store...........but not before the usual mouthful of dirty words to each other and the security people......never mind there was children in the store Shocked

It looked like a drunken cat fight on a Friday night in southend, I should have been one of these people who should have filmed it and put it on youtube for fun
