My Cypriot friend was introduced to my German friend.

Me, "Katya, this is Johannes."

Katya, "Hello, Yourhighness."

You have to read it aloud Very Happy

Today, I tried to cook what could be translated into English as bacon dumplings and I was very pleased with the result. It's a Bohemian/Bavarian/Tyrol dish from many years ago.

Diced bread rolls, bacon, onion, milk, flour, salt, eggs and green parsley. I cooked diced bacon with diced onion in a pan and then put it all together with the rest of the ingredients and shaped the dough into small dumplings. It's boiled in salt water. Served with white cabbage cooked in the traditional way. Would be also great with spinach or roast pork with gravy. I didn't want to roast pork for several hours though, so I just ate it with the cabbage, sprinkled with fried onions.

*the plate is oversize, btw.

I have been thinking about that. You have jogged an old memory.

"Sprinkle a little on top of cheese on toast (after grilling)".

I think, as far as I'm capable, that was it, anyway.

Looks fab that but needs washing down with multiple cold Bavarian beers though. Cool

I've spent quite a bit of time in Bavaria over the years and thoroughly enjoy the simpler foods over there, plus that wider area of Europe. In Prague we visited Pivovar Vinohradsky (in my opinion, the best of the Prague breweries) and spent many hours in there eating Czech oil-pickled cheese and onions with bread and butter, washed down with endless mugs of beer. Simple but fantastic. Eating raw onions for hours though does hum a bit . . . for something like the next 24 hours.

My gears are currently being oiled by the heady aromas of beef, cumin and marjoram. I'm doing a fine impression of Pavlov's dogs in anticipation! Smile

Adds a nice touch to bolognese - go easy with it though. You want to round out the overall flavour rather than overwhelm.

My post-Christmas clear out continues, lots of stuff going in the bin. Found an old Garmin GPS in a drawer, apparently it has "lifetime map updates." Oh really...

Colour me surprised when Garmin Express said "yup, we have loads of updates for this old thing including a 3.5gig Euro map update!" nice Smile I think I'll put it back in the Skoda. Found an old TomTom though and that needs a paid for subscription for updates Sad eBay for you, sunshine.

I have installed MoCa2 Free, a free motion detection video recorder/dashcam, onto an old smartphone. Now I can use it as a "security camera"! The phone's SIMless, the screen's cracked, it uses an on-screen set of buttons 'cos the on-screen Android ones don't work, but its camera is fine!

There may be beter products, but this is pleasing.

My current fave is the M&S cheddar bread.

But as I'm off bread this year, I dare not buy any, but its one of the few things that I actually miss.

Today my gears are being lubricated by having made porridge from scratch (spare bag of oats in the back of the cupboard) and dotting it with frozen raspberries, which melted very nicely into the hot porridge - and a TINY TINY drizzle of golden syrup.

But being inexperienced with proper porridge for many (i.e., 50) years, I made way too much, so I am also having it for lunch ( Thinking or perhaps I could make some fridge flapjacks with it, in case I get the munchies later Thinking )

Might have to get the CBD honey out and see it that suits my purpose.

Today, I got a letter from Japan... that I sent to the UK from the Czech republic about 6 months ago. £3,96 and it went around the world to not be delivered to the addressee. I can now ask for the refund, because the postal service failed to deliver my letter. Thumbs Up Laughing

On the subject of bread, I've recently branched away from making "ordinary" sourdough and have made a Marmite and extra-mature cheddar sourdough. Even though I say so myself, it's fantastic. When toasted with butter it smells and tastes like a marmite and cheese toastie.

There have been three updates on the website for the product we're not allowed to talk about. Silence

They're all crap and are things he's previously claimed to have done already but meh, it means the ungrown man is still alive.
