Puppy passed her indoor obedience/socialisation class. Feeling quite smug because all the others agreed that my
Gracie was top of the class. She's very obedient anyway and has had sit, lie, paw, fetch, drop it, speak, wait and stay
all pretty much learned with what Ive been doing with her at home. Timidity was her problem, she was fearful of other people
and other dogs She went from having to be carried in there on the first time we went because the other dogs were barking.
To her nearly pulling my arm out when she saw all her doggy mates in there this week on our last session. Thumbs Up

She still has another 5 sessions to go at her outdoor obedience course. We did a basic obstacle course this
week with a slalom, a few different floor surfaces to walk on, a gateway to go through and a couple of little
jumps. I'll see if the wife will take a few pics of us when we're at this Saturday mornings session. The guy is an ex
police dog trainer, so we're expected to work the pups quite hard really considering their age/stage. What's
hardest is keeping their attention on you while you instruct them, especially when there's 10 other dogs around
in close proximity. I've never really put any proper effort into training a dog before, I'm finding it surprisingly rewarding.

Taking one's pooch to obedience classes makes loads of difference to your relationship. A dog that will walk to heel off the lead, sit, stay when asked and you know will come back when you call is an easy dog to own. I don't understand how people own dogs that won't do these simple things, as it is all about safety. A mutt that is out of control is a liability....

my dog walks to heel, I never trained it, it just does - unless..... squirrels.

Finished dog training level 1. Starting level 2 next week.

Since dog training, we have learned down, stay, shake paws, come when called. It could already do sit when we got it.

Come when called often doesn't work, wheras the naughty dogs charge off, mine just sort of sits there. Laughing

Seriously, I thought this rescue dog was a bit dense when I got it, but dog training has made such a difference.

Oh and had a photo session today Thumbs Up

will post an image up when I get one.

I went to an auction of erotica at Sothebys today (yes, it was v. interesting).

I went round the block twice before I realised I could park* in a tiny little space almost right outside the door (in Westminster) with a tiny gap either side. A very nice chap with a charming jawline was parked in a Range Rover behind me, and asked me if I could move forward a bit so that he could get out, so I hummmmmed and haaaaaa'ed and then agreed to inch forward and let him have four extra inches (oooh matron!) - my bumper was only millimetres away from touching the street sign in front of the Boris bikes stand Laughing

When I went to pay by phone, my shitbox phone battery died and I was running late for the auction as well, so I didn't get round to it.

When I got back (2 1/2 hours later) yer man was still there, he quite clearly hadn't moved Rolling Eyes

... and I didn't have a ticket on me windscreen Shocked
A good reason to chat up the bloke again, thinks I, even though he was about a third of my age. So I asked him whether anyone had put a ticket on it, perhaps it had blown away or been taken off by vandals? Apparently not. He was dead impressed that I hadn't paid and not got a ticket for my lack of effort. Although I suspect I may get one in the post, no doubt there were cameras Rolling Eyes

*a Prius ... Shifty
So I know Prius's are the most hated vehicles out there, due to them being AddisonLeemobiles, but in fact they have a surprisingly snub front profile, and are very easy to park, I almost never hit anything.

The unusual feeling of being warm post ride and walking to a shop.

What is this magic and how do I trap it in a jar?

Time to remove the thermal layers? Shocked

home. First ride of 2017, last was boxing day.

I think it's the uber connection that makes them hated... by cabbies Smile I actually hate (black) cab drivers more, but at least you can hear their horrid stinky cabs coming.

Yeah I think its because they are usually given to the noobs at Addison Lee, unless they specify a Galaxy.

I didn't want a Galaxy partly because diesel and partly because they're so big, I couldnt be arsed with driving that.

Also Uber, yes, because anyone can buy the pre-loved (!!) ones from the huge stock that AL have to sell off.

I kinda like the Prius, although they're the drivers that even I hate now: they all drive at 15 fuckin miles an hour cos the speed limit sign says 20 Rolling Eyes ... terrified of losing their licence/livelihood and having to go back to Wankistania.

I don't mind black cabbies. The first two years I was in London, I pretty much had lunch with about half a dozen of them every day. They are inclined to give PCO drivers a hard time, but really its water off a duck's back to me. Sometimes I flip them the bird if they shout at me or cut me up on purpose, but I flip other people the bird as well; I'm not especially fussy who gets it Laughing

We all get there in the end.

(I do also acknowledge and say thank you to those who are nice to me: if it helps their stress getting a wave and a thank-you from a smiley bird, who am I to deny them)

I thought it was to keep the car running on electric (is it up to 25 mph)? Maybe that isn't why they all drive at 25 in 30 limits Smile

'We' had actual beef with cabbies when I started my last job, some BS about us stealing their fares Rolling Eyes I hate how they're against any kind of competition, if they didn't routinely try to rip people off uber etc. wouldn't stand a chance.

Also they drive like arseholes.

Maybe it is, maybe they save money on petrol by keeping it running on electric, that never occurred to me actually. Personally I'm not that (a) tight or (b) nerdy. I just drive the damn car so people get where they want to go.

Most of the black cabbies are pretty grumpy about the competition, but they must have seen it coming, because they were the ones bitching about the cowboys touting for fares back in the bad old days (80s) when it was almost totally unlicensed. What did they think would happen? It had to be legalised, it wasn't going to go away. I do think Ubering has taken it a bit too far in the other direction, but such is life.

I'm sad that "the knowledge" is no longer a special thing, because I was dead impressed when my lunch buddies used to regale me with tales of their experiences doing it. I've not seen any of them for years now (most of them must be dead, they were pretty old back then).

But I have a soft spot of black cabbies and I feel sorry for them that technology has overtaken their "trade". Doing the knowledge is still something to be proud of (I'm too lazy/too old to invest 3-4 years of my life) - but ... for how much longer? Black cab drivers will become like Beefeaters, part of the fabric of London, part of the pageantry or tradition, like pearly kings and queens, and the way technology and licensing is going, they will end up only earning a living driving tourists from one place to the other and then have their photos taken with the taxi. I think its quite sad really.

Can't remember where I heard the joke but it was that cabbies know the quickest route, and the best excuses for not using it Smile I see a lot of cabbies using a sat nav' now. I think they should have adapted personally, I think they're trying to with Hailo but it's a bit late.

Edit: actually as an example, my sister used to get a cab from Euston when visiting (with 2 children), but they were rude and expensive. She now uses Addison Lee.
