Went to see "Grandad" today.

He doesn't really know who we are, but it was good to connect with my sister-in-law (whilst Grandad drooled on his shirt) to have a right girlie nag and bitch about her brother (my ex) Laughing

Saw the onchologist a couple of days ago.
Lung cancer as epithelial mesothelioma ---- asbestosis is the common name.
Not curable. Chemo may help slow things later but only maybe and not a lot
12-18 months is typical

Asbestosis, as in breathing in asbestos fibers? How and where, if I may ask?

Sorry to hear that, I lost a few friends and my granny to cancer, well they were heavy smokers (they got either throat or lung cancer), so it was kind of expected, but not guaranteed.

Things are never this simple though. Today we're still trying to figgure out wether using vast amounts of vitamin C is benefitial to us or not. Just a few years back scientist started to question ''anti-oxidants'' in food and found out ''anti-oxidants'' should not be ''consumed'' by cancer patients, as these ''anti-oxidants'' ''help'' the growth of tumors.

To use something you might see every single day. It was only not that long ago we found out that exhaust gasses of diesel powered vehicles contain particles so small, that the moment you inhale them, they go straight into your blood stream and not even a surgical grade face mask can stop them. To stay within the diesel is bad for you, there is a proven corelation between the frequent public transport users (diesel busses) and cancer of the respitorial system. Frequent waiting for the bus is going to kill you, I suppose.
The last one about diesel, it was proven, that being exposed to diesel exhaust gases (and you are if you live in a city) slowly causes infertility of the population.
EDIT: Why people use bicycles to commute in the traffic bussy cities again? Confused

The influence of radio waves of all sorts (WiFi, Bluetooth, Tv, FM/AM Radio...) on human health was still not found. We just do not know yet, if it causes any health issues to us.

And this list could go on,...

I meant the ''asbestos = bad for you'', hence the list of next stuff that's not quite good for your health and we're just getting to know them.
Asbestos was quite a miracle material back then. I'm not that old, but having a fire retardand this effective and cheap at the same time must have been just too cool not to use it. Little did they know, it was gonna cause lung cancer. They even made asbestos brake shoes/pads, iirc.

Thanks for your thoughts folks.
How did I get in contact with Asbestos?
Two options
1. I bought my first house in 1964. Prewar semi. Had been shaken a lot by bombing during the war and much of the wall/ ceiling plaster had fine cracks. Back in the late 60s through to mid 70s I used Artex to splodge all over the walls/ ceilings to cover over those cracks. It worked fine. You bought Artex as a powder, dumped it in a bucket and stirred it with water to make a porrage-like gunge to put on the walls etc. Mucky job. lots of dust.

Artex contained white asbestos up until 1980. My old house probably STILL has the stuff all over the walls & ceilings. No hazard wile it is emulsion painted and undisturbed but ......

2. At work I used to do work with talc and kaolin. That included mixing it with other materials in say 50kg batches of mix. Both talc and kaolin can contain some asbestos like minerals. We knew that later and part of my job was actually to have test samples examined (analysed) to determine how much asbstos like material and the particle size/ particle geometry.

One of them "got me" I am sure.

Apparently being in a car's really bad for fumes because you're sitting behind another cars exhaust. Living in a city like London's meant to reduce your life expectancy by 9 years iirc Neutral

Culinary success today, with BBQ beans. Tried Jamie Oliver's version, but thought it had too many competing flavours in it, so I left most of them out and used my mum's own BBQ sauce recipe that she gave me years ago. Worked a treat. And yes, it has had that effect Shifty

Found a £5 note inside a bag of Walkers Ready Salted Crisps.

There was a clue. It said £5 inside this pack on the front in gold?

But who believes that shit!

Anyway, I feel like Willy Wonka Thumbs Up

Filtering to the front of traffic lights next to a 17 plate £80k+ mercedes that decided his manhood had been threatened by my actions so booted it from the lights on amber.

I gave him the head start as I'm not daft enough to pull out on amber at this particular roundabout.

Only to (obviously) fly past him 2 seconds later without breaking a sweat.

its the simple things.

(The greatest part was that although he continued the "chase" after Id reached my cruising speed, he got cut up by a slow overtaking artic just after I went past it.)

Never saw him again. Laughing

I should have said, I feel like Charlie Bucket.

However, since you ask, if I had to choose between Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, there'd be no contest.

Gene Wilder.

Comic genius outranks good looks every time. I'd even overlook the Young Frankenstein comb-over

For the record Sid, has both. I mean good looks and comic genius. He hasn't got a comb-over though Cool

"pup" he is a year and a month old now, is scared of.......

Cherry Pepsi Max bottles.

Laughing

He likes empty plastic bottles, he likes to chew the lid off, rip the label up and then scrunch the empty bottle up. I guess there was a tiny bit of cherry pepsi left in the bottle, as he backed away from it and started barking at it. I became his hero when I put the nasty bottle in the recycling bin. I tried him again next day, same result, he runs away from the bottle, growling at it.. Yet, will happily rip up a regular coke or pepsi bottle. Laughing

Ours (7 months) goes mad when you get the broom out. Doesn't mind the mop, hoover or lawnmower.
But that fucking broom...... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
