Do you have any youtube video you found, and made you consider/try/buy your bike? I was mostly attracted by its sound.

TDM900
because it sounded like V-twin and I liked it.

After I made this topic, I noticed you can test ride most bikes in U.K. new or used(not like us). So test ride or asking in BCF may be best option, but I wanted to know if lots of you check your fav bikes on youtube beforehand.

I would search the bike model and year with 'problems' in the search box. Smile

Sales clips won't tell you real issues. Smile

Thanks for your info. bike model and year and "problems" search must be helpful Thumbs Up Youtube videos tend to be "how nice my bike is" ones. Some of them are doing honest reviews though. (That BMW trick is great).

I'm not entirely sure You-Tube had even been invented when I bought my bike Shocked

So think I am going to offer an unequivocal 'No' to this one!

There was a TV-Show in the UK in the '80's though called 'Kick-Start'.. half game-show half motorcycle trials, it was part of the evolution of Arena-Trials... spin-off was a show called 'Junior Kick-Start" that showed the School-Boys having a crack, and suggested that my Mum wasn't telling me the whole truth when she said I had to be 16 to have a motorbike.. there's clips of that on You-Tube now if you want a laugh! Didn't suggest any particular bike, other than a comp-trials bike to me, though.

I found some clips of Kick start/ junior kick start on youtube. Most of riders were young and skilled. Cool there were these shows in 80s Thumbs Up

You don't get to do test rides? What if you bought something that looked great on paper and it turned out to be crap to live with?

It's a gamble. Once we buy it, we can't cancel it. So we try to get information about the bike on the net like youtube or forums.

Some makers rent a circuit and do test ride festivals like this but it's once a year and usually distant locations.
https://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/mc/event/new-model-testride/

I envy you!
-----
regarding used ones(car or bike)
Most stocks at shops has no registration before purchase so test ride is technically impossible most of the case. Even if it had it, most shop owner doesn't let us test ride it.

Well, I personally went for the BMW because there was a local BMW dealer who made it very easy to test-ride and buy it, and it suited me very well.

The nearest KTM dealer is a 3 hour round trip, and most KTM bikes are too tall for me.

However, a lot of BMW's sales success can be attributed to the Long Way Round / Long Way Down documentaries. People were literally queuing up to buy R1200GSes when that show aired, and they've held that dominant position ever since.

I agree this kind of videos are helpful to avoid buying them.
Only 4 month old and write off. I hope he got some cover from aprilia or insurance. Italian car and bike catch fire often!

For me this video of 2006 ER-6 with broken frame avoided me to buy it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VerJv4mOc4#t=2m11s
He stopped his bike on its side stand with full loaded for a long touring, then its frame where the side stand stem from was broken.
This trouble is reported by several owners. And kawasaki didn't recall this, and improved its frame from 2007 model secretly. Thumbs Down
searching with "2006 er-6 problems" shows this thanks MCN.

I was quite keen on the Ducati Hypermotard until I saw this guy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN6LNf2Zot0

That's his second one, he's had nothing but problems with it. Then I found a load of people with lots of issues.. Off my list now.

Convinced me the WR250X would be just as fun as the DRZ400 .. and 6th gear for highway. Very Happy I have had the fuel pump issue though in hot weather.

Probably this https://youtu.be/dnGAetL5kj4

I certainly watched it when considering a 535. I remember then noticing the pipes weren't standard. Motad and OEM pipes have adequate heat shielding.

And this https://youtu.be/rgNoZLI7kN0
I beleive eazyduz occasionally lurks here and moved up from a gz125 marauder, which is what i had at the time.

I dont think it was one video though. Lots of research. Didn't do enough, getting it on 33bhp required welding bits to the exhaust which was problematic. Rode pretty well on 33bhp though. It still had plenty of low end and a nice wide torque curve. I think a handful of videos put me off other bikes more than a single video sold me one. I was considering a hyosung gv650 but was scared away by hyosung build quality and parts issues.

I considered all kinds of bike though. My main criterea were easily made 33bhp, could take luggage, preferably hard luggage, and low and light enough for me to not fail at manual handling. I've got ME so my muscles dont always work properly and i wanted something that could get me most places i needed to be provided i was mobile enough to get on it. The 535 has done really well. Yeah it's not as face-melting as an r1 or as road-munching as a vfr and i shall probably one day replace her with something like a fazer, but it was the right bike for me at the right time.

Happy to say I wasn't dissapointed. Was my first inline 4 aswell. Boss.
