It'll rust through in six months so you may as well rag it.

Honestly? Try not to stress the engine for the the first 100 miles (avoid low and high revs) and then start to push it a bit, increasing stress levels over the next 500 miles.

Remember that loading the engine at low revs is as bad as ragging it everywhere

If the engine seems to stuggle to accelerate in any gear then the gear is to high for.the current 'available' power of the engine. Drop down a gear and the engine rpm will recover. Power is a factor of speed of the engine so lower engine speeds = lower power. (This has little to do with torque for this issue).
Engines need gearboxes to allow an engine to be used at different road speeds. This is due to the narrow range of power output. Google the science on it.
Reving it's head off in a low gear is bad too. Although not as bad as high gear low engine rpm.
The added stress of high rpm is that hammering down a hill can push the engine faster than it's electronic rev limiter and then you'll be crying about why your pushrods are bent or valves petted the piston. Very Happy
