My trip report for this years BCF Euro Jolly from the 11th-20th July, 2015.

Many Karma's and thank's to Marmalade again for helping organise so much of this years trip for everyone.

We went through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Italy covering about 2500-3000 miles over the whole trip.

Day 1 – Saturday 11th July
Left home heading to Folkestone. Got the Euro Tunnel to Calais and then continued to the F1 Hotel in Charleville-Mezieres, France.
Day 2 – Sunday 12th July
Left Lille and crossed into Belgium and onto Luxembourg. Visited Luxembourg city for a couple of hours then continued back into France, to Metz and then our next F1 hotel in Strasbourg.
Day 3 – Monday 13th July
Left Strasbourg and headed to Baden Baden in Germany. Rode down through the Black Forest via the B500 (absolutely brilliant road). Stopped at Lake Constance and then continued into Austria to our hostel in Feldkirch.
Day 4 – Tuesday 14th July
Left Feldkirch and crossed into Liechtenstein, followed by Switzerland. Rode through the Alps into Italy and through the Stelvio Pass to our next hostel by Lake Como.
Day 5 – Wednesday 15th July
Left Lake Como and went back into Switzerland upto the Verzasca Dam. We had planned to ride back up to Austira via the San Bernadino Pass at this point but it was incredibly hot, late and people were feeling knackered already so we ended up using toll roads to get back upto Austria and the hostel in Feldkirch.
Day 6- Thursday 16th July
Left Feldkirch and headed back into Germany, riding through Memmingen to our Ibis hotel in Gersthofen, outside Augsburg.
Day 7 – Friday 17th July
Left Gersthofen heading to our next Ibis in Koblenz.
Day 8 – Saturday 18th July
Second night at the Ibis in Koblenz – Spent the day visiting the Nurburgring.
Day 9 – Sunday 19th July
Left Kobenz and returned back into France to our F1 hotel in Lille.
Day 10 – Monday 20th July
Left Lille for Calais and returned to the UK.

Not sure where this was exactly – it looked interesting on the Satnav due to all the twisty roads. Was a very short, albeit very good stretch of road.

Day 3 – Monday 13th July.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%201/2%2028_zpsql1qpamy.jpg

Arrived at Baden-Baden in Germany.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%202/3%201_zps96zqkmp2.jpg

Joined the B500 through the Black Forest. Possibly the best road i've ever been on. We may have been in luck with traffic/police with it being a Monday morning – but it was miles and miles of this Smile.

Finished the B500 stretch after a while and got stuck amongst a group of Swiss bikers for a few miles. Mr New KTM & matching orange one-piece started getting a wobble on. This quickly lead to getting his wobble off, after overtaking a coach and deciding to continue across the top of a large ditch, ending up trapped underneath the bike... BCF recovery team to the rescue.

He had a buggered ankle and wrist, but nothing too bad – ambulance etc got called and we carried on after waiting 10 minutes for his group to actually notice he'd disappeared and come back Laughing.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%202/3%2013_zps4fcdll3x.jpg

We then entered a very strange fairy-tale styled town called Wolf.

Crossed into Switzerland... There are hundreds more pictures I could of posted from this part of the trip but the thread would be even more excessively long than it already is.

TL;DR...

Switzerland; great.
Many mountain; much view.

They were then replaced with flimsy, token, wooden fences and randomly placed patches of gravel Laughing.

Great as the ride up Stelvio was; particulary for views, the side we went up was so congested and cramped it was quite hard work to be honest. We had one bike overheat, one bike dropped and it was generally quite exhausting; particulary in the heat. I nearly dropped mine on a couple of the bends and some of the campervans that came round the turns were in wipe-out mode which didn't help.

Absolutely worth it by all means - but its more of a 'challenge' than a 'ride' in the conditions we did it I think Laughing.

The ride down the other side was a lot more chilled out Thumbs Up.

The heat at this point was 42 degrees and becoming unbearable even with all our gear unzipped. We were stopping regularly to literally pour bottles of water on ourselves to try cool down, let alone drink. It was cooler to ride with the visor down because the air was so hot, no matter how fast you were riding – and the tunnels we passed through felt like riding into a hair-dryer. I'm glad I decided to wear a jacket and kevlar jeans at the last minute as my leather one-piece would have been thrown in a hedge at this point otherwise Rolling Eyes.

Pulled in at the service stop that splits off to the San Bernadino Pass or the Toll roads (after accidently already riding briefly on part of the toll roads), followed shortly after by 3 police cars Whistle. They all calmly waited around with ice creams for the next half hour until they saw we were buying the toll-stickers. I don't think it would of gone so well had we left the forecourt without them Laughing.

Day 6 – Thursday 16th July
Mainly a long motorway slog to start getting all the way back up towards the north.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%203/5%2035_zps4ydeentt.jpg

Stopped at a garage to try find a socket big enough to tighten one of the groups many slack chains that had appeared.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%203/6%201_zps1m6hbm6h.jpg

Then we all got split up into 3 or 4 groups for a bit after two sat-navs confused the drop-off system.https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%203/6%203_zpsdb6dvm6l.jpg

https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%203/6%204_zpsgeefuioo.jpg

Eventually met back up in the centre of Memmingem, but had more problems as the Blade had a mini-breakdown. One roadside-bodge later we carried on and eventually made it to the Ibis near Koblenz.
https://i60.tinypic.com/28cc5.jpg

Day 7 – Friday 17th July
This is what the route looked like for the rest of the group Rolling Eyes. Mine was a little different.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%203/6%207_zpscmdre4vi.jpg

After a few days of having problems starting the ZX6 and it stinking of fuel – it decided it had enough and packed up entirely in an Autobahn rest area.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%201_zpsfzhd4erd.jpg

Cue-waiting for recovery...
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%202_zpsiknmlz8h.jpg

And some more waiting for recovery...
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%203_zps5i04e8km.jpg

Feeling absolutely gutted, I got karted off to 'the nearest garage', expecting it to be the end of my trip.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%204_zpsipg6n6a8.jpg

<Insert 90 minute rant about Putin from Russian driver>.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%205_zps4qohrfpi.jpg

About two hours later, after getting to the garage and them working on it they managed to get it fixed luckily. So I was now completely lost, on my own, in the middle of somewhere, even further in the wrong direction of Koblenz than before, with no map and a phone with no working GPS, internet and barely any call signal Doh!. If anyone has any idea where this is, feel free to let me know Laughing
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%206_zpssgnrsadj.jpg

Spent the next 6 or so hours getting pointed and lead around from town A to town B by german bikers whilst I tried to find my way to Koblenz Laughing.

https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%2013_zpsrthzhded.jpg

Eventually, got to within a mile of the hotel and was met by one of the group at the nearest Lidl Laughing.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/7%2014_zpssnzqio2v.jpg

And went to empty the local Chinese buffet Drooling.

Day 8 – Saturday 18th July.
Rode over to the Nurburgring for the day and then returned back to the same hotel for a second night.

Parked up at Bruchen corner. There was only a few cars on the track at this point - not sure if there was an event of some sort running or it was just extremely quiet.

https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/8%207_zpseaxb35b7.jpg

Rode up to the main track entrance area to watch people going on for the main open-to-the-public part of the day.

It got incredibly busy at this point so we rode back down to the corner again to watch everyone. There wasn't as many bikes as I expected, although this guy with a pillion was going round at a pretty impressive pace Shocked.

https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/8%2016_zpslksgwrck.jpg

Went up to the visitors centre to look around the museum after a couple more hours, but it closed just as we got there which was pretty disappointing Thumbs Down.

Day 9 – Sunday 19th July.
Leaving Koblenz heading for Lille, France for our final night.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/8%2019_zpssqvk0apv.jpg

Nothing much interesting again this day, just a slog to get there. Spiced up by some now very slack, maxed out chains Whistle.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/9%201_zpsfxs54lxw.jpg

And some tyre-hungry chains The world's smallest violin player, just for you!.
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/9%202_zps7mlyyvxr.jpg

Did a couple of karting sessions once we got to Lille (camera battery died Thumbs Down).
https://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag227/bcfeurojolly2014/euro2015%204/9%203_zpsrvm7gkuj.jpg

Well done Matt Karma

It was a great trip Thumbs Up

We had a laugh, rode some excellent roads, saw fantastic scenery, ate many Chinese meals and all got home (eventually) in one piece.

There is not much I can add, Matt has spammed covered it all, but just a few more:

B500 in the Black Forest.

Luxembourg city was so nice. They were having some free rock concert in the square that day, by turning up we literally doubled the audience. Free city wide wifi too.

Matt and the ZX6R off on a mini jolly.

Ace trip - wouldn't have had the stamina for it me sen, like. Especially not in those temperatures!! Was expecting to see pics of you lot going for an impromptu dip in whatever lake or river you could find - cos that weather sounds seriously, oppressively hot. Throw in some of the most demanding routes in Europe, plus dodgy traffic and ffuucckkk. I'd have had to pull over, curl up in the shade of my bike and wait for nightfall. Btw, what happened to the blade?

Excellent as usual Matt - was worth the wait Smile

Out of interest, did anyone tot up their approximate expenditure for the whole trip, hotels, fuel, food?

I won't say I'll be on next year's, but I would certainly like to be. Glad you all had a good one Thumbs Up

And what a shock it must have been to come back from that to the cold, wet and miserable weather we've been having here!

Besides the couple of temporary breakdowns and some maintainence woe's with chains etc it was fairly problem free this year. There was a couple of near-misses with traffic, by someone Wink, but nothing that couldn't of happened in the UK anyway to be honest. The biggest problem of the whole trip in my opinion was the heat in some parts, it was so fatiguing you began losing concerntration by the end of the day; on tiny congested Italian roads that you really didn't want to not be concerntrating on Laughing.

Dave70 wrote:

If i'd of been told it was going to happen before-hand i'd of been extremely Shocked, but to be honest I was so relieved to have the bike running again and not be going home (plus all the potential hassle of waiting around in a hotel/hire car etc), I was happy to be riding anywhere on the bike, even if it was with little idea where I was or where I was going Whistle.

Supermoto_Fan wrote:

There wasn't much clearance between tyre and parts of the chain were so slack they started to slash it Thumbs Down. It did have adjustment left but the tight spots had got so bad by the last couple of days it had almost zero-movement in some spots so we weren't able to tighten it anymore. Managed to limp it back to the UK on the last day and then it got recovered from there to avoid risking riding it any further Thumbs Up.

I think we got there slightly earlier than our departure time and although there was about 30-45 minutes delay, we still ended up getting on an earlier train - unless i'm thinking of the return trip Thinking.

Was thinking of having a quick paddle at a few of them but by the time we reached each one it was literally so hot all we wanted to do was try and curl up in the shade like you said Laughing. Basically had a 'swim' anyway with the amount of water we were pouring on ourselves and into our gloves and gear Smile.

I'll have to work out how much it all came to in the end actually; I lost track during the time over there as my card messed up and I was having to borrow cash for half the trip and paypal it back to people Rolling Eyes. The hotels sharing as a 2 or 3 where possible though were cheap and all good quality (the two hostels in particular were spectacular value Shocked).

Shocked Kin ell! that was quite some read and a 10-out of-10 write up Thumbs Up

Very impressive, the road through the Black Forest looks really nice.
However? I seem to remember that when I was in Germany, any roads that were near pines and forest would also have mozzies the size of Zeppelins Shocked

Looks like it was a top trip that you lot will remember for many years to come.
Ace pictures Thumbs Up

That would explain the penny-sized bites some of us gathered during the week Laughing.

Seemed worst by Lake Como though Neutral. Wouldn't of been suprised to wake up and see this going on outside.

Looks a great trip. I always wonder how people mange to stay together on big group rides through European cities. Its hard enough with 2 or 3 bikes in the UK.

Have been to lots of the same places on various trips.
Would defiantly agree about the Black forest and Stelvio, Black forest amazing roads, probably the best I've ridden as well.
Stelvio is just hard work, maybe one to tick off the list but I'd go out of my way to avoid riding up it again. It was pouring with rain when I went up as well and I couldn't get out of 2nd gear as my bike wasn't loving the thin air near the top.

We do the 'drop off system' or whatever the technical term for it now is. It does seem to work pretty well, even in the congested places. Some of the particularly hectic parts do require the ones following to anticipate they might not of been able to simply drop off and wait straight away after turn or exit road though so people have to start looking a bit further ahead down exits to see if anyones there. We leave someone riding at the back constantly too so whoever doesn't find the right exit is at least with them if they lose track of where the person in front went. Hasn't taken too long to realise people at the back aren't catching up and pull over to regroup, so far Whistle.

Think someone else mentioned their bike was struggling with the lack of air Laughing. I ended up pulling over and letting the stuff in front get ahead a bit a few times as it was horrible hovering on the clutch in first gear stuck behind campervans, there wasn't many gaps though with the constant flow of vehicles going up and down. I think its definitely a 'tick off the list' sort of place. The only thing that would make me want to do it again would be because it was much cooler at the top, while either side of the climb was a sauna Laughing.

That was the main reason we didn't do San Bernadino in the end - as much as everyone wanted to see it and say they'd done it, we were expecting it to be 'more of the same', and being tired in boiling weather already it just wasn't really seeming worth the effort by that point.

(Just seen your video link of Stelvio in the rain Neutral would not of fancied that going down!)
