but, ive got most of the bits now to finish this,
i put new tyres and tubes on, the rubber knee guards are fitted,
had to fluff around with the timing quite a bit, i was miles out in the end, ive got it as close as i can with out a timing light,
but it now seems to start first kick and doesnt piss petrol all over the place now,
still to take it out for a run,
but heres a cold start up video

It sounds real nice does that!
Very crisp, can't wait to see it on the road!
Oh and I'd shake the hand of whoever stole the bandit, as making you have to get a VTR 1000 is win win, and I see you have cans for the devil's own music! |

Lol. The worst thing is, 2 days after I bought the vtr was bought.
The bandit turned up undamaged apart from the locks, which I replaced for £30 so I have a spare 20k mile vtr 1000 going spare if some one wants to put an offer in.
I promise to only spend the money on drink and potentially another 2 stroke project ____________________ the humans are dead

yeah i know, i rebuilt a bridgestone 60cc. it was faster than this.
i cant think what it could be, apart from the exhaust leaks. but even then i doubt you'd lose that much power.
im 99.9% sure its not the disc valves, they were like new, and put back in the right spot, i think if i was even a tooth out on them it wouldn't start properly.
it literally starts first kick, i can start it with my hand.

yeah its got the town and highway gears,
no point puting it in town and only having the 4 speed,
maybe if you were used to riding an old honda c90 and were used to going from 4th straight to neutral. but id rather have the extra gear.
its literally an extra gear, the lever doesnt change the whole gear box's ratios.
nice thought, but nope
it should easily do 80mph ____________________ the humans are dead

ok partial success,
its running loads better managed to get to 70 before one of the baffles came flying out and i stopped to turn around to pick it up,
the other baffle in the exhaust is broken off inside the exhaust and only half of it is able to come out,
not really a problem for now, but will become one when it gets coked up with carbon and i cant remove it.
GT200Fan79 you know you want to sell me your spare
expansion chambers. i will even send you my limited release 10.2% imperial oyster stout as well as cash
its still a bit shit down low getting off the mark.
unsure if this is a carburation issue of if its the characteristic of the bike.
ill post a video riding it once i figure out how to hold my phone and ride at the same time ____________________ the humans are dead

i decided id change back to the original carbs for a test.
the new carbs had a piss poor bottom end, but a really good top end,
so i chuck on the carbs, starts first kick as always,
take off and the bottom end feels great, but i get to the top end and it feels pretty crap, couldnt get above 55mph
and way coming back up the hill to my place and a cylinder drops out and starts running on one,
i thought it was the condesor arcing out on the cover (its happened before) but it felt considerably free'r revving,
parked it up and let it cool down before looking at it.
first thing i did was pull the plug, it had crap built up on it..... oh... nooo.....
put my finger on the plug hole and pushed down the kick start.....
noooooooo!!!!! compression = 0
pulled off the head to be greated with this tale of woe
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/bridgestone%20200/DSC_0652%20Large_zps9n08aa4v.jpg
luckily in my arsenal of spares i had one piston that was in good shape, with 1 good ring,
exactly what was needed
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/bridgestone%20200/DSC_0654%20Large_zpslrugyq9n.jpg
so swapped it all over and happy days
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/bridgestone%20200/DSC_0655%20Large_zpsrvnqtotk.jpg
most importantly my stupidly expensive ceramic coated barrels were still in perfect nick, not even a hint of a scratch (thank Hesus)
heres a couple more pics of the semi destruction
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/bridgestone%20200/DSC_0656%20Large_zps5xktexso.jpg
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/bridgestone%20200/DSC_0657%20Large_zpshmajbwgj.jpg

so one can assume that the main jet on the left cylinder is blocked, and it was just running on the pilot jet the whole time, much leanness = very hot
very hot = burny hole to piston
burny hole to piston = sadness
so therefore much leanness = sadness,
better to be a bit fat ____________________ the humans are dead

P.S. Pics of deaded piston arent currently showing. |
photobucket is doing maintenance apparently
pics should be back soon.
Quote: | Whats the ignition set up like on these bikes? Is it points or CDI? And also does it fire both plugs together wasted spark style from one coil or a pair? I'd just be really anal about setting the timing and knowing both pots were firing at the same distance btdc for piece of mind. |
points ftw its got a pair of coils so not wasted spark.
ive set the timing as best i can, ive done it about 10 times to be as exact as i can (as exact as you can be with points) the points are mounted on a single plate so they will always spark at exactly opposite times to one another, there isnt a way of having 1 cylinder firing at 15' and the other at 12'.
you rotate the whole generator to change the timing and it changes it for both
Quote: | I've often thought about tuning an X5, but it would be diminishing returns, the block is more difficult to tune than two barrels and then you have the stupid clutch design that is impossible to strengthen.
The Bridgestone will always be cooler cause it's a bacon slicer, just like the kawa A1 and A7 are uber cool. |
yeah, id be tempted to tune this or any 2 stroke, but with them getting rarer by the year, and the spares getting harder to get (although the bridgestone is easy to get spares for) its expensive, and my daily shitter is way faster, so i think id rather have a reliable 2 stroke (oxymoron? )
i do like rotary valve bikes, ive had a kh125, a suzuki tc100, a couple of suzuki a100's, and a yamaha yl2, also to a different degree a vespa 150 super which has a cut out on the crank rather than a disc.
the best made i think have always been the kawasakis, but if bridgestone didnt get run out of the race may be we'd have a few more good ones ____________________ the humans are dead
