Hi all

I've got my hand on a complete cheap GS500 for a project. It all works but between 3k and 5k there's a pronounced rattle especially under load. Difficult to pin-point but I would say towards the top-end. It sounds to me a bit like little end but could be anything I guess. Pretty sure it's not form the bottom (using my screw-driver stethoscope..)

I haven't checked the valve clearances yet but I'm getting over 140 psi on both cylinders (145- ish) so compression is decent.

Ant thoughts ?

Cheers

J

What year? They do suffer from can shaft ever float, if it's that the rattle sometimes chances on how the bike is leaned over

I'd be looking at sorting the valve clearances before worrying about more expensive possibilities.

The bikes a 98 but I tghink the engine might be older (it's black).

Point taken about valves but the noise seems a bit harsher than valve lash and not apparent at tickover..

Cheers
