Hi there,

i have had a 125 since april this year but I have sold it to a guy who is collecting it this weekend. I passed my module 1 on monday and have my mod 2 tomorrow. if i pass i dont plan on buying a new bike until next year as i am in the process of buying a house.

Ideally i do not want to cancel my insurance as a years no claims bonus would help me out next year when i get my next bike. My girlfriend has a Piaggio zip in the garden that hasnt moved for the last 8 years and i was hoping to just add that to my policy to keep it active.

Just wondering if anyone has insured a bike that is sorn, has no mot and also isnt registered to me?

Thanks,

Tom

Just get the log book put in your name then insure it. Be aware that some insurers might not be too happy if you try to apply a NCD from a vehicle of a lower license class for a bigger bike later.

So do you think if i do this it shouldnt be a problem with it not being taxed or have any mot? i might even try get it on the road again as a little project. It is currently bright pink though haha.

You didn't say it was pink. Sorry, it won't work.

The NCD should not be affected as it is the rider who is insured for third party risk.
The size/class of bike as a little bearing on it.
I have up-graded up graded up graded mid term on all my recent bikes and not suffered much grief. They charge a bit to account for additional risk but mainly its a charge for mid term adjustment.
All depends on the insurers and or the broker policy.

Be very careful if you keep a policy for a bike you no longer own. If it's in an accident ant the rider isn't insured you will be the Daddy. Smile

OP doesn't say what the Zip is. Could be a moped or a motorbike. Different license classes AM vs A1. Some insurers might not let him apply NCD from a Class AM policy on a new Class A/A1/A2 policy.

Hi

Also can depend on the insurer. Direct Choice refused to quote for me on a bike that wasn't MOTed. They won't insure it even to ride it to the MOT station.

All the best

K

I phoned my insurance today and managed to insure it. All they needed was for me to be the registered keeper. The scooter hasn't been ridden since 2007 and has grass growing on it. I think I'm going to strip it down and rebuild as a bit of a project so that I can learn how to use spanners lol.
