Just putting my toe in the water here.
My XS 400 has crappy diaphragm carbs and a crappy vacuum petrol tap.
To get both carbs balanced and the vacuum tap all working together can be a real pain in the harris
I have done it , but? it doesn`t take much for them to be out of kilter.
I have replaced the diaphragms and seals, but it seems so complicated for such a pony bike.
Sooooo, I am thinking along the lines of putting and ordinary tap on the tank and a set of slide carbs in place of those crappy diaphragm carbs.
What I want from the mighty BCF is, have anyone on here done anything like this and what carbs did they use?
Any input appreciated ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

Have a search through the posts on www.xs400.com as it seems like a popular subject. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

Interesting... so you balance the carbs with the fuel tap disconnected, and when you reconnect it they go out of balance? Surely that points towards a leaky fuel tap or vacuum hose?
I have an XS400 in a million pieces in the garage (in the 'project queue') which despite being in pretty good nick, was taken off the road by the previous owner due to carb problems. He said the engine would start speeding up whilst you were riding it . I'll have a look on the site suggested for clues! ____________________ Chris
