The KDX125 barrel is unique to the KDX as it does not have a mount for the carb, since this is mounted on the crankcase. All the others mount the carb on the barrel. KDX barrels are tough to find (I had to find two!).

Mine had a USD fork (with two piston brake caliper) which I never identified, although I believe it was a KDX 200 front end. Dangerousdave on here knows his stuff on these things.

Good luck getting any KMX200 top end parts for non silly prices. if anyone does have them I doubt they will let them go now if they might need them, and often they are not cheap. It's looking like getting a complete bike is the best way to get your hands on a motor or just parts from it.

The KDX125 I think was based on the 88-89 KX125. The cylinder from the KX might well go onto the cases, but you will need to research this yourself and look up parts numbers etc. It's worth comparing gaskets from KDX and KX's on parts diagrams to see what is common or looks the same. The trouble is finding a decent used 88/89 KX125 cylinder will be harder than even KMX200 bits. I don't think the barrel alone will help you much, as for it to run well you'd need the KX head, Carb, exhaust and probably the ignition or at least the correct advance curve to suit. You definitely won't find a decent KX125 pipe knocking about unless you are prepared to buy new or custom made.

Id personally either forget trying to combine KX and KDX parts and just tune the KDX engine if you want to, or try and fit a KDX200SR engine into the chassis instead.

I looked at KX barrels when trying to find a KDX one. As I said, the KX has the carb on the barrel so is totally different. You may be able to make it work, but it's not a bolt-on solution.

I may even have a couple of wrecked KDX barrels somewhere, but they will need sleeves.

88> KX125's and all KDX125's use a crank case reed inlet set up. It's the KMX125/200 and KDX200/220/250 that have cylinder mounted reed induction system.

Id say unless your lucky you would need to modify a KDX125 head or use a KX125 head to fit a KX125 cylinder and piston. You must use the correct piston for the model as all the cut outs and windows will be different between KDX and KX models.

I'm not sure what the inlet manifold and reed block looks like on the KDX125's being case reed KX derived engines, but with the KMX/KDX200/220 all the reed blocks from each model fit the other's as do the manifolds allowing you to fit different size carbs etc.
No, you don't. Its the big-end bearing which is a specialist job, if you don't know what you're doing get a shop to do it.

None are a bolt on replacement. You can take pretty much any year of KX/KXF forks as long as you get the correct size bearings. Given a choice, try and get KXF forks as they are more advanced than earlier versions.
Kdx 200 top end go on or is they a kx barrel that will?
Neither will bolt on. I've never heard of anybody making either work.

KX is every 15 hours for piston and rings I believe. KDX200, fix it when its broke, is a real trouper in comparison.

2strokestroker wrote:

Shocks can be rebuilt;t, but they are not made to be disassembled, like most OEM shocks. Its the anti-tamper mechanisms, and lack of spares available which makes these more difficult than aftermarket shocks.

No KX shock will go straight in. Have seen a KX shock fitted, but this requires a KX swingers, linkage, and rewarding the top shock mount to the frame as this is totally different on the KX. Saw somebody fit a KTM shock to a KMX125, but with mixed results, and not a clue of what year shock fitted and if any mods were necessary.

2strokestroker wrote:
Kx exhaust?

Doesn't fit KMX or KDX, they use a spring mounted manifold at the cylinder. The KMX KDX bolts on. Thats the first hurdle. Then fitments to the frame etc.

The main point though is unless you are running a KX engine, then a KX exhaust will do nothing good to the power delvery of a KMX or KDX. They are totally different engines, which need very different exhaust shapes to do their thang.

Ok, maybe keep the KDX in standard trim them. They are great bikes. Or else buy a KX.

Ok nice.

Pretty rare now as said, I have some spares but holding on to them as don't know when would find another.

There's a guy selling sleeved ones with Mitaka pistons and gasket on feebay for 380 quid from Phillipines.

If thats too much keep trawling the bay, they come up eventually

Most people doing the same as you, wanting to go from 125 to 200. You could flog them and put the money towards a 200 cylinder.
