Hi all, I'm new to biking only passed my CBT 3 weeks ago was very excited about my result, as I'm new to all this I have gone and baught myself a scooter and am happy with the way things are progressing, I will be doing my proper bike test when I have resat my CBT in 2 years as I am very new to riding and need to feel safe on my own on the road before moving up to a bigger bike.

So yeah that's me and hopefully people on the forum will be able to help me with my bike problem as its really stressing me out

Firstly CBT isn't a test, you haven 'passed' anything, you've just had your first very basic, very limited mototcycling lesson.

There's absolutely no point in doing the CBT twice. Get proper training instead and take the tests.

Welcome.

Getting your full licence doesn't obligate you to get a bigger bike. I would advise getting training/tests done as soon as you can. Then you'll also have the freedom to upgrade whenever you feel like, rather than having the added stress on top of needing to pass a test first.

I kept on my 125cc for 5-6 months after passing my test, before upgrading, because I wanted to use up my insurance and get my NCB.

Third time lucky: then get training now and ditch the Loser plates that attract abuse.

There's plenty of fun to be had in bikes in the 250-500 range: you don't have to go straight to a Fireblade.

Hi John , well done on getting your CBT certificate ,, its great fun riding a bike don,t you think Cool ..
Its a great forum to be on for advice ,, I have only been on a short time and the guys have helped me out heaps Wink

It might no be a test pal but I'm taking the necessary steps in pursuing my dream riding on 2 wheels, I also don't think I'm upto the grade as of yet to be taking my full test as never really drove scooters/motorbikes

I will be doing my full test but not anytime soon, I'm only on a 50cc at the minute but it will do for now if I can fix it

No proper tests or training for me as of yet or anytime soon, and when I upgrade I will be going for the cc range you mentioned in your post

Thanks Michelle, and yes I love riding around on my little Morphy Richards hair dryer lol, hopefully I will receive the right advice and help on repairing my scooter so I can get back to riding it as I'm paying my insurance for nothing really apart from getting my ncb

Why?

The standard of riding to reach CBT level is absolute minimum and can be completed by someone who has never touched a motorbike in one day. Why would anyone want to limit themselves to a two hour ride under instruction? Also why would you want to spend £100 here or there on doing something you've already been through for no benefit other than to stay legal on the roads.

The best way to gain a full license is just after completing a CBT with no road experience as you're the perfect pupil for training schools, this way they can mold you and tell you how to do everything to pass your tests rather than spending time getting rid of bad habits.

Also a training school wont allow you to book your tests without (a) seeing you ride and (b) having sufficient training to their satisfaction.

Why not? After two years with no training, you'll have two years worth of bad habits to unlearn before you're test-ready.

Why not just book a DAS course and get your license? No one will force you to get a big bike straight away but you'll (probably) be a better and safer rider for it.
