hiya, just a quick warning. i am a new biker and i passed my restricted test last september i know i'm not the epitome of motorcycle knowledge, so you probably won't find me talking about "my uncles 230BHP turbo R1" or some rubbish or make up some fallacy to sound like a big man, so why is it that i am made feel like an idiot when i go into Premier Bikes in Didcot and ask a perfectly reasonable question. i will not say this of all staff but frankly, i think some of them could do with a long stint in the McDonalds school of customer service. when the electric starter on my kawasaki eliminator 125 failed to start the engine i checked the connections, battery etc and when i was out of ideas i took it to premier bikes. i asked them to fix the problem and a couple of days later they had told me that they couldnt find a problem but cleaned out the starter motor. i coughed up and a week later the problem started again, i took it back and this time a second mechanic told me that my starter motor was filthy and attempted to charge me again for a job that had supposedly already been done. a while later, i took an italjet dragster 180 for some new tyres to pass its MOT to be fitted. the rear tyre was fitted backwards, this was despite the directional arrows. needless to say it failed the MOT. i went in earlier today and after a very long wait, despite plenty of staff, and no improvement in customer service i have vowed never to return. i have used premier bikes a lot of times, sometimes things go on without a hitch, other times the experience is appauling. i dont think i'll bother running the risk of another bad one. Confused

We called there a month or so back to look at a DRZ and a KTM Duke which were advertised but weren't there when we got there. We had a good look around while we were there and wanted a few questions answering about Kawasaki finance.

When we finally found someone willing to talk he said he'd go check the finance upstairs and never came back Rolling Eyes

We just went.

Anyway we take our bikes to Kings at Kidlington, they seem sound, plus they only charged a tenner to pick a bike up 10 miles away.

That's a common bait-and-switch where a dealer advertises an unavailable bike at a too-good-to-be-true price just to get you in the door.

Of course, the smart dealers will then try and actually sell you a bike. I had much the same experience earlier this year; dealers just not interested in haggling, offering test rides, providing details on bikes, or, you know, dealing. Not one single dealer responded to an online query or called me back when they said they would. Not a single one.

Hey, new bike registrations have been falling for the past 4 years even though the number of licensed riders is still rising. I wonder if there's any connection?

No one likes being badgered by salesmen, ffs had that today in Hein Gericke but when you're stood there practically waving your hands for help that's bad.

As for not taking the time out to answer an email or call back, well they just don't deserve your business Rolling Eyes .

I agree with the awful customer service.

Went in this morning and received no help, and not even any acknowledgment that I was there from the staff.

Been in before with a deposit in my pocket to put down on a bike, customer service was shockingly bad, so bad that I just walked out the door.

Kings in Kidlington, I cannot rate highly enough...

same as down hear in ipswich, lings motorcycles who are a honda/triumph dealership wont help at all, just stand there chatting to each other or disappear out the back, orwell motorcycles on the other hand, soon as you arrive and start looking you get a can i help you sir, even if they are busy with a customer they still ask you if you require any help, if you do there is a nice seating area with drinks machine and some motorbike racing on a large screen for you to sit and wait and they DO come and see you straight after, they are the suzuki/kawasaki/yamaha dealers, there mechanics are really good too if you think you have a problem they will often come out and have a look completely free of charge and even advise you how to repair, there clothing and helmet section is good too with nice changing rooms and plenty of staff to help you out always, if i was looking for a brand new/second hand bike i would use them as i have done twice

If you've got a Google account, you can post a review of both dealers: just Google "premium bikes didcot" and "kings two wheel kidlington" them look for "Write a review" a bit down the page.

Also, if you get a bad experience at a bike place, it's probably[1] worthwhile following up to tell them why they didn't get your money, or won't get any more. I hate to think there are local places going out of business without even knowing that their own sales staff or grease monkeys are stuffing them.

[1] I say "probably" because I didn't get any response to my "I am disappoint you didn't respond to my email" emails. There's no helping some people. Rolling Eyes

It's such an easy thing to offer good customer service too, and a bit of active banter with customers would not only sell stuff, but also make the working day pass so much quicker.

Don't know what they're like these days, but around 15 years ago I rode back to Leicester from Matlock in a blizzard, and my bike started misfiring for the zillionth time, and I decided I'd had enough and needed something else so would call into a dealers on the way home. I staggered freezing and dripping wet into the shiny showroom of Len Manchester's in Melton Mowbray and started wrestling my soaked kit off in the doorway - the salesman just looked up and said 'best get the kettle on then... milk and sugar?'... I think we both knew at that point I was leaving there having bought a bike!

Amen! Premier bikes are shite, wanted £60 to fit and balance a rear tyre for my bike, even with the wheel loose! I think they prayed on me at the time because I was young. I live locally the as does blackwolf and we, and others, stear clear, well clear.... Unless we just want some eye candy Mr. Green

Shit customer service seems to be endemic to bike shops, receiving good service seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

A few years ago my local shop was Motorcycles and Moore in London Colney. I rate them as the worst in the world.

Shocked You're joking? That's like 1.5 hours labour. Do they have a blind Tibetan monk balancing it using lotus blossoms?

Nope, I told them to sling their hook! Went down the road to a little industrial estate to a paint shop as my friend driving the car was after a quote for some touch up work on his car and the guy there noticed my wheele in the boot of the car and asked if I wanted it fitted, I said yes, he said "Give me a tenner and that will do", I left him the wheel and tyre and came back a few hours later a happy chappy. Turns out he does a lot of custom bike painting and has all the gear to fit/remove tyres Smile

Geoff (owner) is a top bloke, he was my 'expert witness' when i took a bike dealer to court over the turd they'd sold me.
