Wanted to try bluetooth, decided on one of these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131535250966 Strangely they are not significantly cheaper from china.. buy from uk... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111754357567

The bluetooth part works quite well, though I've not taking calls. I'm sure a great many people buy them, not knowing just how poor or uncomfortable the earphones are. However they are ideal for chopping off (arms and earphone bit) and replacing with decent - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301693558404 - mine are SHE7500, these look similar enough, none on ebay right now.

I chopped my SHE7500's cable to about 10" and soldered it directly to the PCB (but might use pin headers next time). The bluetooth bit is small enough to velcro inside lid near my chin and its cheap enough I'm going to buy a spare in case I forget to charge it or have issues in wet weather.

8-10" of cable is about right. Put lid half on, earphones in, then lid fully on. Shorter would be impossible, longer would be annoying and dangle in the wind/catch on jacket.. the main annoyance with wired earphones.

Sealed it in epoxy and coat of paint. Usb has a rubber plug, so its quite waterproof. Used pin headers so I can still use earphones cabled if I want.

Why not just buy a helmet specific BT? Would have been a lot easier and not much more cost.

They all seem to use speakers rather than in-ear.
Also Stick on outside lid, rather than inside, which makes wind noise at higher speed.

why pay 20 quid when 5 quid and half hour is a lot closer to what I want.

Why not just solder on a 3.5mm socket so you don't have to fuck up decent headphones?
