£2k?

Sorry but I can't help you on specific items. You could google Fireblade review. Or check out MCE's bike review pages.

I think Hondas are pretty fireproof though and not many surprises.

The usual stuff applies in used bikes.

Service history (if any) doesn't make it a better bike as it could have been ragged/neglected and still have dealer service. Smile

Good tyres as you'd be looking for £190 a pair to change. (incl. Fit and bal.).

Plenty of brake pad material. Easy to check if you look at the pads.

Clean Brake Fluid in the reservoirs.

Clean Radiator. Ten years may mean time to replace it if it is an all-weathers machine. Not so if a fair-weather beast.

And etc.

Sorry if above is not of any use. Sad

I'd call that a realistic price. There are plenty of them languishing on eBay and Gumtree, pride and joy, I-know-what-it's-worth, RELISTED AGAIN DUE TO ANOTHER TIMEWAISTAR!!!

700 miles a year (doubtless fewer recently), garage queen, tail end of summer; I imagine he's thinking either shift it now or tuck it away until next spring when it probably won't get ridden further than the MOT station and back anyway.

Also, he's an Aries, they're notoriously impulsive.

The Grey Import thing is probably more of an issue with younger bikes.
As bikes age and the residual value drops the grey import 'cost in real money' thing diminishes.
Insurance Cuntanies and their brokers still do wring their handypops over it. I'm not certain exactly why they take that stance. Today, parts are as freely available for Grey bikes as they are for not Grey bikes. Perhaps many many decades ago sourcing parts from the cuntinent was more difficult
The cost of replacement parts is a big consideration for underwriting.

Which begs the question of why they haven't fixed it, and are trying to get shot of it "sold as seen" (which is legally problematical for them).

Could be that they know that it's a complete dog.

Could be that they reckon they'll never make back any money that they put into it.

I've seen loads of Fireblades come up nearby on Gumtree, and generally stay there. Plenty of "reposted due to time wasters" / "no more dreamers" ones that disappear and re-appear.

Ladyowner of the CBR that I tried also had her Fireblade up for sale, said it had "sold" twice to young chaps but both of them pulled out. I'm guessing they got insurance quotes and shat the bed.

I'd posit that those that can afford them are growing out of them (or dying off), and those that want them can't afford them.

If you're an exception it looks to be a buyer's market.

Nothing to compare the condition of the bike too as you haven't showed us the bike you're interested in, you've just told us the mileage and price Smile

Apart from the crack in the fairing, looks like it's in decent nick.

Didn't notice it was import, fair point. My previous bike was an import, no issues at all. Only inconvenience was being that the odometer read in KM rather than miles.

Things that can and do go on that RR4-RR5's

Arrow Reg/Rec and generators often go pop, often on a regular basis.

Let's be honest, Honda electrics aren't the greatest. I went through 2 generators on my 929 and 3 rectifiers in 40,000 miles of ownership. When I sold it to Harley, he reloomed the bike just to get rid of any dodgy wiring or earthing issues.

My mechanic at Branson's Honda advised me that if you can afford to get an RR6/7, they're a more solid bike, although they sometimes have issues of galvanic corrosion on the sump (around oil drain plug boss). It was ultimately what stopped me getting an RR4/5.

Arrow Probably want to set about £500 aside to sort the suspension out. Refresh the fork oil and rebuild the rear shock to get it handling how it was! Most people tend to forget about this when they buy a new bike, but it sould be part of routine maintenance TBH.

But £3,500 and below is an honest price for what is effectively a 10 year old superbike.

As for insurance, depending on where you live and how old you are, they're quite cheap! A Fireblade RR4-RR7 would have cost me £110 TPFT, whcih, incidentally is what I'm paying for my 07 R1. (28 y/o, rural post code and 8 years NCB)
