hello, i have a nsr125 and its a very good runner ( my workhorse ) but the rev counter has a mind of its own but the engine tone remains normal and it splutters abit like the fuel filter is blocked abit, im hoping thats all it will be, i was just hoping for a little help of the masters, pls reply.

Don't know how much fiddling with bikes you've done before; as a start i would unscrew / detach the revcounter cable at both the revcounter end and the other end.

Twist the drive cable inside at one end and check that i's spinning freely and regularly at the other end.

Place a container under the bottom end of the cable and either spray WD40 or squirt 3-an-1 oil in the top until it runs out the bottom.

Let all excess drip out, when it stops dripping re-attach the cable at the bottom end and stat the engine to see if the cable drive spins (regularly and freely) and if it does, re-attach the revcounter end, screwing it on hand-tight only.

There is no cable - its an electronic tacho.

My guess is that the coil is on its way out. If it is then the bike will more than likely stop running soon.
