Hi,

I'm looking to replace my old Scala Rider, I really want something that either comes with decent quality in ear headphones, or will accept a 3.5mm headphone jack so I can plug in another set.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks

The Scala g9x has a headphone jack for the speakers (I believe the older g9 was different)

I have one, and the standard speakers are actually pretty good. Thumbs Up

The Sena 20s comes with speakers and a headphone socket as standard and you can swap between them.

The slightly older SMH10 can be bought with a base/mount that has speakers or a different base that has a headphone socket.

I've had both systems and use them with Ultimatear moulded speaker plugs and found them both really good. The standard speakers on the new 20s are better than the SMH10. My wife uses her system with speakers and finds them really good.

We went through a fair few Scala G4s (broken and replaced due to water ingress) and bases (the speaker wires are renowned for breaking, even on the G9 bases). We also got fed up with them being unreliable and made the leap to Sena. We haven't looked back since. A friend and his wife are also going through the same process as they too are fed up of their Scala G9s

Jesus Christ those Sena 20S' are expensive!

They're a good £70 more than the G9X for a pair.

We bought ours from fc-moto.de and saved a fair few quid. They're more expensive, but have more features and are actually reliable.

When we bought the original SMH10s I found a US place that was selling spare modules and spare bases separately on eBay. By buying the bits separately I got 2 complete units for about £140. Unfortunately I can't find the seller's details but may be worth investigating if you don't need any of the additional features that the 20S gives.

I got some from there too, much cheaper. My only problem with S20 is they don't like my voice.

When I bought my Sena, I ordered from a US seller on eBay, paying all the import taxes to eBay up front - so no nasty surprises with the postman turning up with a bill. It still worked out significantly cheaper even after paying tax + postage on it.

A friend and I have recently changed from the (old and shit) Scala Q2 Pros, to the Sena 20s system.

Its FAR better. 100% satisfied with them. At least 5 or 6 times the range of the Q2s, the speakers are much better - i'd say 3 x louder, I find that less than half volume is fine for anything up to 90mph. It has a headphone port. Comes with every accessory necessary in the box (a choice of microphones, mounting options, speaker mounts, velcro, 3M tape, bolts... Everything.

We were very wary of spending so much money, but its 100% worth it.

One particularly nice feature is the voice announcements - e.g. it says hello when you turn it on, goodbye when turning off, tells you when the radio is on and which station, incoming calls, when dialling a call... whereas the scala just beeped for EVERYTHING. The same damn beep. I never knew what it was doing.

The g9x has voice info. Notifies you of all the things you said the sena does. Also does voice activation too, which is really handy. I think the sena does that as well though.

From a feature standpoint I think the 20s and the g9x are pretty much the same, but, the thing that pushed me to scala over sena was that sena say the device is 'water resistant' whereas scala is actually rated as IP67 (dust tight and can be submerged in water...) in Scotland it rains, a lot Very Happy

Meh. I've had mixed results with the Sena 20s - If I had my chance again I wouldn't buy it.

With the motion sensor set to low I have to bang my helmet (Fnnnaaar) really hard, with it set to high just moving my head triggers it. There's no option for medium sensitivity.

Voice recognition is not so hot either, I go from "hello sena" to "HELLO SENA" to "FUCK YOU SENA" in under a minute... It's gets more an more irritating each time she says "Say a command" as if I've said nothing...

Phone app is a nice feature but having to use a PC/Mac to do upgrades is a PITA and it's a shitty pc/mac application too. There's no reason the phone app couldn't upload firmware.

Firmware is at 1.5 but it's only minor incremental 'improvements' - Radio sucks badger cock.

I did a 4 hour stint with it linked to my phone for navigation and it lasted all the way - I wasn't playing music though.

No idea what the intercom feature is like because I've never linked it with another device.

I had to do a fudge with Tasker and a script to get it to be able to control music on my N4 - That might be an issue with the N4, but I can't be sure.

Really good feature, double tap the button on the base of the unit and outside audio is fed to the speakers. Useful in petrol stations...

I recently bought the SMH10, I was going to get the SMH5 but wanted multipoint pairing so I could connect TomTom and phone at the same time (SMH5 doesn't support this)
I chose the SMH10-11 - the 11 variant doesn't have the boom mic hardwired/connected to the unit (and it comes with two mics, one boom and one sticky mic on a flying lead) - with a normal full face I think the mic-on-a-lead is the better option and makes a neater install (over a boom mic)

When it all works, it's fantastic - I always wear foam earplugs, but I can still hear my music and directions even when at motorway speeds.

That said I'm having a slight issue with the setup (TomTom Rider 400, Samsung S6) - I've used Tasker to launch Spotify and initiate Bluetooth internet sharing as soon as the Sena is connected to the phone - which allows the TomTom to automatically connect to the phone and use the internet for traffic info (without Tasker you'd have to do this manually every time) The TomTom connects to the Sena every time and is a reliable connection, the phone reliably connects too - the only thing that's glitchy is the 'media' option - so 50% of the time I turn it all on, the media connection doesn't work so I get no music (in the phone it says 'connected for phone audio' rather than 'connected for phone & media audio'
Randomly connecting/disconnecting things gets it working, but it's a bit irritating. As I said, I'm not sure if it's the S6 at fault or the Sena.

The Sena driver & update software is also utterly shite.

If you don't need the microphone (it has one, but it's on the unit), I really like the SBH20:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-SBH20-Stereo-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B00BWIHI7M

If you keep an eye out, it'll occasionally come down to around £15.
Edit, that price here.
