You can apply all kinds of stuff, but you need to keep applying after extended periods. Kangaroo leather is the only naturally waterproof one, but I hear it costs a fortune.

I think you mean splash proof and i would say leathers are to a degree but if you want to be serious about not getting wet you would need something like this

Have to say even the model here struggles to make this sexy Laughing Laughing

I've been playing of late with some leather trousers and found that if you use light oil it does make them resistant to water / rain, the down side to it is that you have to make sure you do it at least once a week to keep them this way. The oil also makes the leather soft and stops it from cracking.

Leather is natuarally water proof.

If you want it to stay that way, keep it on the cow.

The liberal application of Nik-wax will do it, but all the dust and stuff will stick to them.

For best results and most fun get a 'friend' to apply said compound by hand whilst wearing them Twisted Evil

I second Stinky's preference of Nik-wax. Magical wonderful stuff.

I use them on my hiking boots and they keep my feet dry all year round, and on my leathers, which also keep me dry except in the most torrential of conditions.
Just make sure you apply plenty of it into the seams Thumbs Up

OIL? Shocked

Would make you slide quite a bit if you hit the deck anyway Laughing

Wouldn't be very nice for other people if they rubbed against you, or you sat on a chair or something!!! Confused

The oil soaks in to the leather. I've tested it on a pair of trousers I have here and they do not feel slimy and they do not leak oil over the chairs that I've sat on, tested it on two chairs, one was a metal chair and the other was a plastic chair with a white cloth on it to see what happens. Water was also poured over them, it ran straight off the trousers.

Nik wax is the key, they have many wonderful products not just for leathers either. They do stuff for Goretex, gloves, boots and all outdoor stuff. But one word of advice dont just look for it in bike shops, my wife owns and runs a saddlery and she sells it at about 20% cheaper than my local bike outlet! Wonder if i could get her to stock bike parts? Laughing

Yeah, Nikwax is £2.45 for a 500g tin at the saddlers next door to my work. That is enough to do my leathers and boots three times (and that is a lot of surface area).

The leather will keep water out for a while okay, but there isn't much you can do about the seams unless you coat them in Nikwax.
