Morning all, first post on the forum.

Am hoping one of you will be able to help me. Recently did my CBT and bought a YBR Custom a couple of weeks ago, which I've been riding since all my gear turned up on Tuesday. It's a 58 plate, with less than 4,000 miles on it.

The bike started fine when I went to view it, so there wasn't any issues there... But it appears to have issues starting, as shown in the video linked below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaLMJ7VMgCs

The bike eventually starts, but can take 5-10 minutes of continually trying. All I've done since getting the bike, is change the engine oil, adjust the shift lever and adjust the clutch slightly.

After it fails to start (we didn't record this) we get error code 28 (2 flashes of the engine light with a long gap, 8 flashes of engine light with a short gap), which has something to do with the engine temperature sensor.

Through googling I've seen similar issues which have been resolved by replacing the fuel pump; but no one seems to have mentioned getting error code 28 in those situations. The bike does seem to start easier in the morning when it hasn't been ridden all night.

Does any one have any ideas what I should do to start trying to solve this problem? Thanks for your help.

Edit: Forgot to add, I've checked the battery voltage, and it's above 12v.

How about you take out the spark plug and put some fuel in. Then if it fire and run that means your fuel pump is the problem.

Spark plug is fine. If anyone is able to help I also posted this on Reddit to try and get help.

I was leaning towards it being the fuel pump, but the previous owner told me it was changed 2 years ago...

Any correlation between starting issues and the ambient temperature? The fuel pump issue normally appears on a hot/sunny day which seems to stop the fuel pump from priming, The fix for this is a new pump, but your issue sounds different.

Faulty engine temperature sensor? This would stop the pump putting fuel into the cylinder I'd imagine

Currently away from home at the moment, when I get back I'm going to test it. Might just replace the sensor anyways. I'm even thinking about just replacing the fuel pump, can get them for about £30 on ebay.
