I'm going to California a week on Monday for a conference in San Diego. The conference lasts a week, then I have added a week on at the end to have some kind of holiday.

Thing is I still haven't booked myself anything for the second week, so at the moment I would be homeless with nothing to do. So I 'd like some suggestions what to do.

I would quite like to maybe hire a Harley for a couple of days if it's not too expensive. I'd also like to see some National Parks if I can. People keep telling me LA is a dump so I don't think I'll bother going there. I'd quite like to see San Francisco but it looks quite far away from San Diego even if I get a hire bike for a couple of days.

So anyone been there and have any suggestions? I hope not to spend more than £400 on the week if possible.

Cheers. Very Happy

San Diego is a beautiful place

they comb the beaches on Coronado island every night (this is where most of Top Gun was filmed)

it's a 30 mile drive to Mexico but I wouldn't recommend taking a Harley, in fcat they will forbid you from doing it

However, you can easily hire a car and for a 30 dollar (ish) premium you can legally drive to Mexico - it's well worth the trip, just to see the contrast 30 miles and a border can make

We did a day in LA, the touristy things are worth seeing - went to Santa Monica pier and had a BJ on the big wheel Laughing Laughing

Universal Studios is SUPERB, as is Sea World San Diego.

Old Town San Diego is excellent, some good restaurants and the GasLights area of downtown is a good bar, restaurant place - feels very safe compared to some US downtown areas.

Remember to take ID though as most places will not let you in if you look under 30.

SF is realistically a flight away but remember the fantastic SouthWest Airlines fly out of SD - 40 bucks to SF more than likely, well worth a trip.

We stayed in the Sheraton Harbour Island (I was on business) it's just great Cool

Have a super time, I loved it

Sand Diego is definitely one of the nicest places to visit in general. Not many landmarks but lots of pleasant people and places, just none too remarkable. Some of the more mountainous areas are really great as well, especially the Kings Canyon area and Kings River. San Fancisco's got some really interesting landmarks, such as Alcatraz, Golden Gate, etc. but it's almost always foggy/hazy/etc. Though maybe that'd make you feel a bit more at home? Wink

Anyway, I actually live here so if you if you've got any specific questions PM me.
