Hi folks.
I have just purchased a 1989 Honda vision ne50mf
It runs but Somethings not quite right.
It has good compression, good spark.
I appear to be having some issues with my carb and I think it could be the choke.
From what I've researched electronic choke is on when the bike is not running but once power reaches the choke coil it lifts and thus turns thenchoke off.
I may be wrong.
Anyway im getting very erratic volatages at the plug.
Does anyone know anything about this issue.
Sorry folks forgot to add this other issue.
Also when the bike is connected to a good battery nothing lights up on the gauges, no lights,no horn no indicators.
I've checked the small 7 amp fuse and I'm getting power either side.
Many thanks in advance
Simon

You're right about how these electric bystarter/choke devices work. They are fitted to a number of Honda scooters from that period and they become unreliable with age (20+ years). The only cure is replacement & they're expensive, if actually available. There are Chinese equivalents around for some models (CH125, CH/CN250) but these can be as bad as the knackered one you're replacing.

What exactly are the issues you're experiencing?

Just running rough.
I've got a funny feeling someone's messed with the jet and has over fuelled it.
So got another carb coming.
The choke does works as in a 12v supply it actuates.
Got new plug and barrel, head and piston coming.
Failing that I'm thinking crank seals as the last owner had to half cover the air filter hole to get it revving.
Which to me indicates too little fuel but adjusting the mixture screw does little or nothing to the smoothness. So thought another carb would eliminate certain potential issues.
