Recently bought a 2007 dt125re as a first bike. Been using it to commute 6km to work each day.
Today on the commute back on the highway doing about 100kmph the bike suddenly lost power. I figured I was out of gas. While on the low side there was some gas in the tank. Managed to get it started again and rode it another km. But it stalled repeatedly at red lights and the engine sounded anemic. Idle revs went from the normal 1200rpm to 3000. The bike would start but the minute I put it into gear and increased throttle it'd lose power and quit. So yeah, the day concluded with me pushing it home
This is possibly the second time this has happened. But not as dramatic as it happening at high revs and speed on a highway.. The first time I spoke to a mechanic. He said likely I flooded the spark plug. Which seemed right to me as after leaving the bike to stand for a while it started fine. Regardless, not sure I want this happening at highway speeds again with barely anywhere to stop safely. Could flooding be the case if it suddenly happens at a steady high speed and had been running smoothly (as smoothly as a screaming 125 can ) upto that point?
The bike has a new plug. Engine and transmission oil were recently changed/topped up.
From some quick research, could it be the carburetor needing cleaning? Possibly deposits drifting about in the fuel tank causing a blockage, when the fuel was on the lower side in the tank? |
