Would you suggest we euthanize OAP's, as they account for over £90bn of that figure?

I'm not "suggesting" anything. I'm pointing out that the budgets are two orders of magnitude apart and so not really comparable. Trident is insignificant in budget terms. Welfare is the largest item.

OMG... someone with different views in opposition.. The sky is falling...

Yeah it's a bit far for the PM to make an accusation like that when he just drone striked someone for being a threat to national security.

It's illegal for a company to spends it's employees pension pot. Perhaps the government should abide by it's own laws.

But the state pension has always been a ponzi scheme. What do you think we are? Malaysia?

Malaysia AFAIK has 401K type individual savings pots whereby they can't just Bob Maxwell you.

Most people who werew illegals went home with no fuss. Around 25% didn't. These were the ones who made constant appeals, delayed the process, etc.

These were also the ones with the highest rate of severe mental health problems and rates of having been tortured. Many were forcibly returned. Some of these were killed upon their return.

I can never forget the time I and other staff returned a Broadmoor patient back to his (African) country of origin, after being fully treated and his risk reduced to nil. The local police came on the plane and told us they were to stay on board. Given how heavily armed they were, we wren't going to argue.

They took him around the back of the nearest hangar and shot him.

He was obviously dangerous enough that they didn't want him wandering around.

Nothing quite like deliberately missing the point of post to make yourself a web-forum cliche'.

Trident is essentially an arm of the US nuclear weapon program. We may as well just give the Americans £100bn. We just don't need it for any practical purpose. Any country with an A bomb that might target us would undoubtedly be a state America is itching to bomb anyway so would use us getting hit as an excuse to go invade that state. So why pay a hundred quid never mind a hundred billion on a weapon we would never actually have to deploy even in the worst case situation that we get bombed.

The more interesting Corbyn views are his position on Europe and on NATO.

Anyone else noticed how Sturgeon and the SNP are shitting it over Corbyns victory?

The very fact he's an advocate of printing money and helicopter money drops is scary though. The bigger problem is A LOT of people seem to believe money printing is the answer and they can simply print with no consequences.

Before anybody says it GDP per capita in the UK is below 2007 levels.

Quantitative easing was printing money, overblown mortgage lending was effectively printing money as well. Corbyns position is no more dodgy than what's gone before. I think he's wanting to generate investment directly in industry though rather than padding out banks balance books. That's got to be some improvement surely?

Yes yes, but Corbyn mentioned peoples' QE. The problem with peoples' QE is that our governments use money to buy votes or sign up to dodgy schemes like PFI to buy more votes.

What exactly stops a government from printing more and more money to buy votes? Seen Japan? Each successive government has bought votes by promising to print more and more money. The last 400bn printed caused a massive fall in living standards. Seen China? They printed up 9trillion. It was all great for a short time... now both nations are facing a monumental bust.

Secondly not all infrastructure construction is GOOD infrastructure spending. Just look at the Edinburgh tramway for instance 1.1bn peed up the wall.

Where is the option for ''let's scrap trident and with the money we save lower taxes''? One of the things I dislike most about the UK is that whichever party you vote for it all comes back to 'need mo money fo dem programs'; sure they might argue over the finer points of what to spend it on, but the basic idea of 'leaving people the fuck alone to get on with their lives in peace' is completely outside the realm of UK politics.

Statists!!! Statists everywhere!!

It's all a bit like what would happen in school if the naughty boys took over for a day.

It may all be some grand plan, and after a few months he'll need to spend more time with his family and almost anyone will seem quite balanced and reasonable by comparison.

We have a bunch of genuine psychotics running the country (read the Guardian's article on the psychological damage caused to school boarders {eton etc}) and people are scared of Corbyn printing money? Lol!

Yeah, let's bail out the banks, let the scum running them (into the ground. Again.) continue to cop multi-million pound bonuses, allow corporations to keep dodging tax but utterly destroy the welfare state that helps the most vulnerable with mere pennies (by comparison).

Austerity...taking from the poor to give to the rich. Wake the fuck up.

Did you see the bit where Comrade Corbyn proposed allowing renters to forcibly "purchase" the property that they're renting? Did your jaw not drop at the audacity of that?

I say "purchase" since it would doubtless be with People's Bank funny-money loaned to Denzil and Shardonnay and paid back (or not) with their benefits robbed straight from the property owner's pocket.

He's an unreconstructed unapologetic communist who would crush any incentive to create or construct. I hope he makes it to 2020, having him leading the left is the best thing that could happen to this country.

Aye, almost as funny as giving a shed load more cash to a sector that caused one of the biggest financial disasters of recent times and then making the poorer sectors of society pay for said cash.

Those Tories love a good laugh.

They do at that. Party hard, smash up the place, but they paid the bills.

If we have to have politicians, I prefer a bunch with a sense of joie de vive than some po-faced doom merchant wanting to drag us all down to the same level of miserable abject poverty. Less 3-day-week, more partying like it's 1985.

Maybe more would be "dragged" up?
