CG125 keeps making a noise when I hit top gear. It's like a whooshing, rubbing, whirring rattling sound.

It feels like the noise should speed up and slow
slow down as I get on and off the throttle but it doesn't, it carries on at the same pitch until I eventually come down to second or third gear then the noise completely stops. What is it?

Phew.... I've not got a clue. You'll have to wait until Kamdra comes on shift.

What difference would the speedo make?

As long as the bike is moving the speedometer drive will be turning.

Even with the bike out of gear, engine off but moving the speedo will still drive. The speedometer arrangement is in constant 'mesh' i.e. the wheels (front or rear) drive the speedo drive, which drives the speedo cable, which drives the speedo.

Unless it is electric. Shocked

Its just an easily tested guess but it wouldn't be the first bike with a mechanical speedo to develop a worrying noise.
A dodgy speedo can be surprising noisy too.
