Hi guys I'm new to this forum but I'm having problems with my Honda cbr 125r 2004 and thought to come here for some advice

Basically, I've bought this new cbr for when I turn 17 and I took it round the block to see how she rides, she seems to ride. It was fine at first however I noticed that at about 7000rpm in 2nd gear it starts to splutter until it gets to 8000 and then it's perfect. I've cleaned the carbs spotless so it's not them after I rebuilt it back up I took it for another spin and it was still doing the same thing, however this time it cut out and would not start, took me about 10 mins to push it back home and by the time I did i started it and revved it full throttle it spluttered at first but revved up and then it ran perfect, sorry for the long description. Also I topped the radiator fluid up as it was low it's nothing to do with that is it?

Many thanks in advance guys

Yea Ive had the same issue with mine. They have a flatspot at around 7000rpm.

Make sure your floats not sticking, and rejet if it has aftermarket exhaust/filter. That seemed to cure my problem for the most part. In fact when I cleaned the carb it was quite evident right after, and then went away for some reason.

Also make sure the intake isn't leaking throught the throttle body. Make sure the petrol is fresh and don't use crap supermarket fuel, mine absolutely hated the cheap Tesco fuel.

Thanks for your reply buddy I'll check that out! I'm going to replace the spark plug as I checked them and it is very black, also what do you mean by the leakage in the throttle body? It's got standard air filter and exhaust. I'm still slightly baffled about it completely conking out and then starting back up 10 mins later and being completely fine?

Thanks in advance

They don't have a flat spot.

What they do have is a horrendous tank breather, it kinks easy. Lift tank, throttle side there should be 2 pipes from tank going down... make sure they are straight and routed.

Thanks for your reply Paddy, there are two breather hoses coming from the tank but I thought they were overspill pipes if you put too much petrol in! I didn't think these pipes affected performance that much tbh, but ill check them

Thank you Smile

One is the tank vent, when you use fuel it needs to be replaced with something otherwise you are gonna get stuck.

Easier way to test would be to ride till it stops and then quickly open the fuel cap, you'll hear a rush of air going in. I used to remove the tank breather pipe.

One of the first things I tried was to yank them right out.
Certainly didn't cure that 7k hesitation.

But they can give you headaches if they kink.

Do the things mentioned cover the basics, go over the vent pipes, change the plug (see what old one looks like, too rich too lean?), make sure the intake seal is tight (as when you change the air filter you tend to loosen it up), check the batterys charging, make sure petrols good and give it a good run. Is it possible when you put the carb back together you might have messed up? Did you connect the lines from the carb to the tank correctly? Theres a fuel line and a breather.

Its a good reliable bike but in my experience the carb was always tempermental.
