Bit of advice please - I want a small laptop for streaming from Kodi (Genesis), been looking at the cheapest and smallest option because it will only be used for streaming (connecting to a full HD TV with HDMI). Will any old Netbook do, or do I need a particular standard of RAM, graphics card etc? Not fussed if I only end up with 720P quality, anything more is a bonus.

I also looked at Mini PCs but they seem to be more money for what is essentially a laptop without a screen?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Amlogic-S805-MXQ-Android-4-4-Quad-Core-4K-XBMC-TV-Box-Media-Player-1GB-8GB-/391019905956?hash=item5b0a9a43a4

This is all you need mate. Dead easy and simple with WiFi and Ethernet connectivity and remote control. You can plug a keyboard & mouse in via USB (or wireless dongle) and you got yourself a very cheap setup.

Works great as well, get Kodi pre-installed but easy to update or add it yourself and install the usual apps like Genesis, Navi X, etc.

Wired or wifi?

Cabled, I'd have a go with a Raspberry Pi.

Wifi only Roger.

So is the Kodi app on Android only? If it works as well as the PC version then that will be fine, I just assumed that an App would perhaps be full of ads/blocking and stuff.

I'm knocking out Android Kodi boxes with all the software installed, configured and ready to go for £90.
Wired and Wifi
IR Remote
HD Movies, sports, live TV, PPV.
No contract, no subscription.
Plug and play.

If you have a TV/HDMi monitor and an internet connection you're good to go.

It's on all platforms pretty much, no ads in there.

Although, I might add, if one isn't very tech savvy, it's not exactly a point point, click click process to get them Android boxes setup how you want them.

For a bit of extra dollar, you could pay for a fully loaded box from the likes of Cansa Thumbs Up

Should of messaged me, I sell them for £49 Mr. Green

Nah, good deal that, especially if you don't want the aggravation of having to try and work out how to set it up.

I don't use them myself, I'm a bluray snob Thumbs Up

Little on topic Confused

Does anyone know of a TV that you can directly install XBMC/Kodi/android on? I know it's easy enough using a box, Pi, dongle, old pc, etc etc, I just wondered really.

On another note, anyone noticed how unreliable Genesis has become since it's gained such popularity? (as in, how far down the list of sources you have to go.) and lots of buffering Sad

Not getting that here.
Solid streams in HD here.

What device are you running it on?

At the moment I'm running kodi on a mac mini (2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 8GB memory). I sometimes use a apple tv too, but not as often.

oh, VM 100Mb too.

Once something is has played for 3-4 minutes, it's fine. But watching tv (eg, was trying to watch broadchurch) and it would play for 20-30 secs then try to buffer, but just hung on 1%. I was on medium quality before I could get it play.
Then switched to 12 monkeys (tv show) and HD played straight away and was fine.
I assumed it was the source rather than at my end, maybe a lot of traffic etc.

So far, I like genesis over most others that I've tried in the past. But as always, I know it won't last forever. Sad
